Have you called (as in on the telephone) CDNN @ cdnninvestments.com or checked budsgunshop.com? I'd love to have that new Glock 17L Buds is selling for $660 shipped. If I didn't have so many other guns on my list I would buy that 17L in a heartbeat, it's rare (at least they were 10 years ago) and more accurate than the standard G17. Also if you have a local Acadamy Sporting goods they usually have the 9mm's with standard fixed sights in the 500$ range. Last suggestion is to look up local dealers on galleryofguns.com. They currently list Glock 17's as "allocated", but I'm sure all the shops they service have them in stock. Find a shop in your area and call them up. Depending on what state you're in, someone will sell you a new, basic G17 with 2 17 rounders for under $600.
One more thing to ...possibly... consider is the Smith & Wesson Sigma 9mm. It's a Glock clone but it's kinda on the cheap side. I know our local Acadamy had the Sigmas advertised in the $325 range a few weeks ago. I'm sure Sigmas are safe to shoot, so the price might make it a good starter gun while you prepare yourself for a 1911 purchase.

If you're near Pensacola, I'll sell you my G17 with Trijicon night sights for $600. I've been looking to downsize to a G19 anyway.

Man, I had no idea there was a Glock shortage. I stopped by my neighborhood gun shop today looking for my Sig 556P and wondered over to the Glock case. Normally there are about 50 Glocks in the case and more in the back... today they had maybe 10, and they were in odd calibers. If you really need one now I still recommend that G17L at budsgunshop.com. The G17L was the Glock I wanted but it was in very limited production when I bought my G17, I would have had to wait at least 6 months for my local store to get me a G17L (back around 10 or 15 years ago) and they weren't sure they would ever be able to get one. For a while people thought it had been discontinued and replaced by the G34, but the G17L has a cult following that won't let Glock quit making them. Full size guns aren't meant for carry, they are for target practice, competition and keeping in the nightstand. I think the G17L is excluded from most competition shooting, so that would be the only down side to it, otherwise the G17L is a perfect 9mm target/home protection gun.

You can try B&T shooting supply, they are in the Cleveland Ohio area. I bought a 17 from them a month ago for just over 500 out the door. You can buy it from them and have it shipped to a dealer in you area for an extra charge.
