I'm planning a honeymoon in the Dominican Republic (Puerto Plata area) and was wondering if anyone could add their thoughts on the need for any travel health insurance. One of the travel guides I was reading said they highly suggested it. I guess I had never even heard of it, but who knows. A quick google search brings up plenty of companies flaunting their services.

Apparently Salmonella can be an issue in the Caribbean so some people just take a stock of antiobiotics with them as a precaution. That sounds rather odd to me. Stock up on antiobiotics and just start hammering them if you get a belly ache? Any thoughts on the subject? Cheers!

well, i would suggest you meet a ''travel doctor'' first..ie. one who gives different shots for people travelling to different parts of the world...call your insurance company to find one...

then ASK that doc when you go whether you need separate medical insurance for that travel...
