actually, it was intended for the material the house is made of, with all the little pieces of hay in the mud. The bowl and the chilis just happened to be there, but which add that little extra to the pic.

I took that picture this summer while in Paris. it kinda looks like a poster picture or something, I like it even if it is plain.

It's called 'adobe', generally made with clay and straw. Very prominent throughout Mexico and north into in New Mexico.

Where was the beach shot taken?

What the hell kind of bug is that snipe?

snipe
01-17-2004, 10:18 PM
Well it's not a bug, its an insect and as to what kind of insect it is; it is in the family Lepidoptera, which is the butterflies and moths, this particular species is a Calleta silkmoth (Eupackardia calleta). Quite a stunning specimen, we collected and raised the caterpillar until it pupated. It was in it's cocoon (pupa) for over 12 months before hatching out this last week.

yeah, i know that it's called adobe, love that style of houses in the Santa Fe area. Was planning to move to that part of the country when I moved to the US but decided not to do it after spending some time there. It's a little too empty for me and the nearest beach was quite a drive. So that's why I moved to the west coast of Florida, and that's where the other pic is taken, the beaches of Siesta Key (off of the coast of Sarasota) are beautiful.

We just moved 6 months ago and the view was one of the things I fell in love with right away. You can see Jersey from my back yard (not that you want to!) but the funny thing is that on the other side you have a nice view but it is actually the local landfill! So you can see the dump and Jersey! It looks pretty anyway!

either that, or your speedometer's measuring your speed in kilometers per hour (because you're canadian?) and then you're really plodding along slowly. oh wait, that would make the trip from louisiana to where you're from really, really far.

then again, new orleans to chicago isn't exactly a hop, skip, and a jump either, "eh?" longest car trip i ever took was from panama city florida to charlottesville virginia - 15 hours, but i did it all in one leg!

actually I was there to see Placebo in House of Blues. Awesome concert. I met some people from Chattanooga and we were wondering who was crazier, me for driving 15 hours straight to see Placebo, or them for driving 7 hours to see the warm-up band.

Good times in N. O. I like coming back there every time.

took a ride on a paddleboat and there there weren't alot of seats and it was an hour and a half so when we found a seat we didn't want to move. there was a ton of seagulls and some idiots decided they want to feed them so it attracted even more. tons of them so you know how birds are they eat their fill so then they get rid of what they eat through the other end... not pleasant.

Here's a big kitty - I know it's not a great picture, but I thought I'd give the story about the place I took the photo. I went to a place in Akron OH - Noah's Lost Ark - it's an animal sanctuary for mistreated/unwanted exotic animals. There's a lot of 'sad' stories about their animals, they seem to specialize in large kitties like this one here.

Ok...I saw this and I had to take a pic of it cuz if you don't look at it right it looks like someone dedicated a temple to me! Can't ask for much more than that

What kind of cameras are y'all using to take these pictures? Some of them look like they should be turned into prints. (Especially the black and white shot of downtown Chicago) Do you have high dollar cameras, or are you getting lucky with a 35 mm? The reason I ask is because my wife is wanting a nice camera, and I have no clue what we need or how much we should expect to spend. I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. :)
