Hi! I am going to try a Matrix Bullet-time effect video shoot with 48 CHDK enabled cameras. Does anyone know of a place that would sell a 5 megapixel or higher (as these are the ones CHDK supports) Canon camera for 50 bucks each if I buy 48 or more of them ?

Thanks!

This is arguably the most awesome deal request I've seen here, and while I don't have any idea where you can find that many cameras that cheap, I wish you the best of luck :)

Oh, and you might look around for Powershot a470's - I think they're CHDK compatible, and they've been rather cheap lately.

Actually refurb A470's are available sometimes for 69 bucks. :-) So I'm hoping the 50$ price point will be hit soon.

maybe you should approach it a different way...

Instead of trying to buy all 48 at one time, chose a popular discontinued model that is often for sale on ebay that typically sells for $50. Then over a period of time purchase your lot as they come up. Perhaps Kyrzen or some of the other well informed digital camera people could throw out a few models to check.

It looks like Canon a470's are still being sold for more than $50 on ebay. Ebay says the average selling price for a used model is $54... but Im not seeing the auctions. One problem is ebay is full of people selling cameras with garbage added in as extras.

edit.... maybe a Cannon SD400? Their seem to be 20 - 30 auctions right now most well below your price range...

I got nothing :(

You might consider finding the number for Canon's refurb store, and calling them for a deal, since you're buying in bulk you may have some luck. If you're doing this for any sort of educational related thing, they may be especially willing to work with you.

Am actually going to hack it with chdk, and try the matrix bullet-time thing. Not sure if canon would feel good about hacked firmware..
Nothing yet.
A470 is within range, but no chdk support yet. Lets see what goes..
