Southfield-based Computer Data Inc. has announced a "Michigan Promise," a program designed to provide free computer training to the citizens of Michigan.

This program is intended for highly motivated IT professionals that want to achieve their Cisco Certified Network Associate certification in a short period.

"CCNA certification is an example of the type of high technology training that will help the state of Michigan develop a 21st Century economy and will leverage the state’s single best asset – the minds of its citizens." Computer Data president Jim Weyand said. "This certification was designed by Cisco to demonstrate the ability to implement and manage internetworks which are used by every business. These skills can be used to support networks across Michigan, across the United States and even across the world. This training can be the foundation for additional training that can lead to an extremely well-paid and rewarding career."

Under the Promise Program, students should register and pay for a CCNA five-day class, either March 2-6 in the Lansing area or March 9-13 in Southfield. Pass your CCNA exam by June 30 and Computer Data will immediately refund your full class tuition of $3,295.

The program is available for Michigan residents only.

The training alone will not get you a job. You need to get down and dirty and really know your environment whether it is Cisco Networking or Network administration. No training or certificate is a guarantee for finding a job.

First off, let me say that I have my CCNA and CCNP.
With that said, they are good certs to have, if you are in the field.
However, your title is a bit missleading. It's not a free training. It's free training IF you pass. And IF you don't it's $3,295. Which is a bit steep for people who don't pass I would assume. Not to mention that you need to cough up that money first, and cross your fingers on the refund.
Also, that price, to me, is a bit ridiculous. The CCNA is Cisco's entry level certification. If you have basic networking knowledge, you can teach the material to yourself with a couple of books. Or, you can go to a community college in your area and see if they offer the Cisco Academy courses. It's two classes (one per semester) that will teach you everything you need to pass the CCNA. Tuition and books will run you a fraction of what this class is charging.

So sorry OP. Thumbs down for the price risk.
