Since the 50D came out, I figure this is the time to upgrade to a 40D. There must be some really good deals out there. I see that many of you do not think Canon's current rebate offer is that great. I really only need the 40D body, not any lenses, but suppose I'll consider another lens if the deal is right.

Thank you everyone!

The only problem is that the 50D didn't 'replace' the 40D - they're both still being sold as their own offerings. I wouldn't expect to see the 40D start to really disappear for another 8-12 months, as Canon gets closer to releasing the 60D (they typically have an 18 month release cycle, aside from the anomaly that was the 50D @ 12 months).

I'd wait and see what the Spring rebate program brings; the current $200 rebate for a body, L lens, and flash is rather weak unless you really need all 3.

I missed those double & triple rebates!

How do the rebates work? If I buy a xsi from say amazon do I get money back from canon via rebates?

Canon's seasonal rebates programs (fall and spring) are all instant rebates - the discounts are never significant enough to induce a buying frenzy, but they are good to layer with other coupons/discounts/gift cards you've been saving.

The current rebate info can be found here (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=541527&t=1187275); this rebate is really bad for anybody just looking to get their first DSLR, as you're going to need to spend a couple thousand dollars in order to save the $200. If you're already in need of a high end body, some L glass, and a high quality flash, it's some free money, just not much overall.

What I'd do is purchase the 40d with the 28-135mm lens from Adorama, Refurbished for $799, then sell the lens for $250-300. Making your camera a sweet deal at $499- 549!

It is cureently out of stock though, keep an eye on it.

Hey Logic,

Are you sure it was a whole kit for $799 refurbed?

I'd jump all over that!!!!!!!!! As a matter of fact, I will hold off my D90 purchase if it is true.

Will it still show on the site if its OOS?

Yeah, its the whole kit with lens. They say refurbed is as good as new because it is rechecked by Canon a second time.

Just keep an eye on their website. When it out of stock, it will not show any results when searched.

I placed an order a couple days ago and got through, but recieved an email stating it was backordered and will ship once more arrives.

Just looked over that deal. Found that they have a new one for just $1049....not sure if the refurb deal is worth it since it only has a 90 day warrenty.

Mine arrived yesterday, not a scratch on it! For $59 you can get a 5yr extended warranty.

Really?? Who administers the extended warrenty?

Are they reliable? Have you had any dealings with them (had to file a claim)?

Should I put any more questions in this post??? sheesh!

I have not had to ever use them. It's through Mack Warranty.
