My SERO 500 plan expires in two weeks. I want to renew my plan but upgrade to a smart phone. I am thinking about the Palm Treo 800. However, in reading through some of the threads here it seems that some of the phone upgrades require you to switch plans. My main goal is to keep SERO. Does anybody know what smart phones I can upgrade to without losing SERO?

Steps to getting both the $70 contract renewal credit plus ordering a new phone. These steps worked for me twice as of 2010-04-24 on the new upgraded Sprint web site:

Assuming you've been on SERO for 2 years, you can get a $70 service credit for renewing your contract for another two years.

To do so, log into your sprint account at www.sprint.com (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://www.sprint.com)

Go to the support page and select the Email link on the right.

Select Plans, Features and Services from the first drop down in the contact form.

Select Plan Inquiries from the second drop down.

In the text field, say something like:

“I heard that there is a $70 service credit available if I renew my plan for another term. I am interested in having this credit applied to my account. Thank you.”

Now you have to wait up to a couple days for them to send you an email. If all goes well, you should get a response back saying that the credit is available and they have applied it to your account. You should see the credit on your account when you log in to your sprint account (if you get an email saying you can get the $70 credit OR a new phone credit, wait a week or so and try contacting them again through the email support link)

Now that you have the credit, you can upgrade your phone. Since you have been on Sprint for two years, you qualify for a $150 credit toward the purchase of a new phone.

To order the phone, go here:

http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/nxt/epc/epclanding.asp (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/nxt/epc/epclanding.asp)

In the fields, enter this info:

Russ.S.Mcguire@sprint.com and his CID of 383

After logging in using Russ’ info (he is a VP or something at Sprint), go to www.sprint.com (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://www.sprint.com) and log into your real sprint account.

You should see your current phone shown with a green “i” over it. Over toward the right you should see the words “I want to…”. Point at the “I want to” and select “Get a new phone” from the menu that pops up.

From here, you should be taken to the phones page and be allowed to purchase a new phone without it telling that you need to change plans (make sure you do your research and select a phone that will work on SERO otherwise you will not be able to activate the phone once you receive it).

-------------------------------------------
Sprint will buy back your old phone if you decide or don't want to hastle with selling it. They offered me $44.17 for my 3 year old touch. Brings my final cost to $85(+tx) They pay for shipping your old phone back.

From post #82:

OK, I am going to help out all of you old SERO users to renew your contract and come out as good as you can. You will need to follow this tutorial in the proper order to get everything to work the way it should. I have four old SERO $30 plans and this worked for me.

1. At 22 months you are eligible to renew your contract. When you are eligible, login to your account at sprint.com and click on the "contact us" link at the top right of the page in the black bar. If you get a security warning about the content being delivered securely, choose No. Click on the "Email us" link and choose No if you get the security warning again. Search for something like "renew contract" and if you get the security warning, choose No. Now you should finally be at the web form to submit an email to Sprint ecare. For topic select "Plans, features, and services" and for subtopic select "Plan inquires." In the text box say that you have heard that there is a $70 service credit available for renewing your contract and you would like to take advantage of that. Put your real email address in the box and then submit email. Wait for a day or so for a response and if they offer the service credit, then just reply to the email that you accept. Not everyone is eligible for the service credit so you might not get it, but worth a try.

2. After the sevice credit issue is resolved one way or the other then you can get your new phone. Don't try to get the phone before the service credit because the credit MUST come first. Go to http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/sprint/epc/epclanding.asp (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/sprint/epc/epclanding.asp) and use the employee address for Russ.S.Mcguire@sprint.com and his CID of 383. Don't worry about using his info, he is a VP or something and put the info on the web for people to use. If you don't beleive me, just google it. Now you can shop for phones. Pick any one that you want except the Palm Pre or the Instinct, they won't work with SERO. Blackberrys can work with SERO, but if you need my help with renewing, then you aren't ready for the hassle of a Blackberry on SERO. Once you have picked a phone, then choose the upgrade/replace option and you will be asked for your regular login you use to access your Sprint.com account. Go ahead and login and you will be asked to indicate which line you want to upgrade. Now you are in business and never have to talk to anyone. You should get free activation and free overnight shipping, sweet!

3. After your new phone arrives and you are looking for someone to call, dial *2 to get customer service. As you go through the prompts, choose "cancel service." Don't worry, you aren't really going to cancel, this just gets you to the retentions department. Before you call, figure out three phone numbers you call a lot, that aren't Sprint numbers. When you get retention and they ask you what you are calling about, say a friend (me!) told you about a feature they offer called "pick 3." They might ask you if you are thinking about canceling, so say yes you are thinking about it. They will then ask you for the three numbers. Once they add the numbers you will free unlimited calling to those numbers. If they offer it with a monthly fee, just say no thanks and hang up. Try again another time.

EDIT: pick 3 is no longer offered by Sprint, so don't bother with step 3

If you got through all this, you should now have a new 2 year SERO contract, a new phone of your choice at new subscriber pricing, a $70 credit on your account, and a new pick 3 option giving you a bunch of extra minutes. Good luck!

I currently have a HTC Touch Pro, Blackberry Curve 8330 and a Mogul all on SERO plans. The only phone I know of that they require you to switch plans on is the Instinct.

As a side note, if you found a phone you wanted to get, I have seen success in first emailing customer care about a phone and then telling them what you want, they can upgrade the phone for you and make sure your plan is in tact.

they told me i couldn't get a blackberry for my sero plan. multiple people have told me that the 800w is not a good phone to get (two sprint employees and someone else from these forums) so i'm not sure if i actually want to get that or not. i think you have to call the sprint employee plan line to upgrade your phone then...it's 888-876-8381. let me know how that goes.

Thanks for the replies thus far. I was looking at the HTC Pro but that is really more money than I want to spend.

Any further input?

My understanding is that you can't do SERO in store. You might be able to do it on-line but I wouldn't trust it. I'd call or e-mail.

I have the Touch Pro, and it is an AMAZING phone if you like to fiddle with your device, and is more on the techy side. It can do everythin and anything you want. I have also heard from multiple people that the Treo 800W sucks. You could probably wait for the new phones to come out pretty soon. The Palm Treo Pro is supposed to be out now/soon. Check best buy, because they usually have phones before the store. I purchased my Treo Pro from Best Buy, extending my SERO contract without changing anything. The Palm Pre is supposed to be coming out in summer as well, and that seems to be a pretty cool phone.

best buy has told me two separate times that sprint's palm treo pro has been recalled. i asked once at an actual best buy and again at a best buy mobile store in the mall.

Go month to month until palm pre comes out, I heard battery life is really bad on the 800w.

I would also advise you to stay away from the 800W. I know two people who bought it...one took it back within the 30 days and the other complains about it constantly.

I say you should do what toology says and let your contract run out and go month to month until the Pre comes out.

And definitely renew either via echat or Executive Services...although executive services has been pushing to move people off of SERO and onto the new SEP plans lately

i guess that settles it for me. what phone would you recommend if i got one today? i signed up and have 30 days to be considered a new customer. so what i plan to do is wait until march 10 to get my first phone, then i have another 30 days for a trade in. i'll stay away from the 800w but what should i get? want to spend no more than $100 after rebates. debating between blackberry curve, samsung instinct, palm treo 755p (insteadof 800w i guess), or palm centro (used to be $50 after rebate so i will only get if i can get for less than $80 that they raised it to). any suggestions?

I have thought about this but here is the problem. From what I read on the net the initial version of the Pre will not be an international capable phone. That an issue for me, not a huge one as I don't travel aboard that often, but nonetheless an issue. I am also worried about the price. I'd go with the HTC Touch pro but it's just too expensive; I am worried the Pre will be the same. So I don't want to wait for a phone that costs too much and doesn't have the features I want.

Sigh. There doesn't seem to be a perfect solution here.

This is where I am at.

The Instinct is out because you have to give up SERO. The blackberrys are out because you have to purchase an additional plan ($$) that defeats for me the advantage of having SERO in the first place. And if you are going to go with Palm the 800w is the best of the lot right now.

As I see it there really isn't any great smartphone for SERO right now. Maybe the HTC Touch Pro but at $300 that is out of my league money wise.

I am a Treo 800w user and can vouch for the fact that you can use it on the original SERO plans.

As for the battery life, it was horrendous when I first started using it, but upon applying the update available from palm (here (http://www.palm.com/800wusb)) things have been greatly improved.

It is an undersized battery for the phone, but Seido makes an aftermarket one that helps quite a bit. Just making sure you don't constantly use data (with push e-mail from exchange etc) fixes a lot of this phones shortcomings.

If you want a cheap option (currently $99 w./ MIR) you can get this, but otherwise if you can wait hold out for the Pro or the Pre.

i think the treo pro will be $250 after rebates (again, info from best buy) and the palm pre was going to be $300 after rebates. that is from only one source though. not sure about the price when they become available from sprint's website.

question though. i noticed that the 800w is $100 after rebates on sprint.com. if i were to purchase this phone online, then in 30 days exchange it in a sprint store, they have the phones listed at $200 after rebate. do i get the store price or do i need a receipt to exchange it? how does that work?

Hi, I am also thinking about upgrading my phone. And since my SERO doesn't have any SMS included, I plan to ask for this add-on for free to keep me as a customer (can't hurt to try, right? ;) ) Does anyone know from experience whether I should ask for this free add-on and then upgrade my phone when the Pre or Bold comes out, or I should wait until the phone comes out and then switch phone, renew contract and ask for free add-on at the same time? Which is more likely to succeed or get me more bonus discounts?

By the way, what is "Executive Services"? Is it different from or better than regular customer service?

Thanks.

With Sprint CS you never can tell but my reaction is that it is better to ask all at once. Sprint is still losing a lot of customers and so you bargaining power is highest at renewal time.

I got the touch pro in Dec. for $199 at Best Buy. As others have said, it is absolutely compatible with the SERO plan. Keep an eye out at best buy as it has been on sale several times since.

What capabilities are you looking for in a phone? I wanted internet that 'looks like internet' and it was either the Instinct (no, thank you, don't want to give up SERO) or the Touch Pro. The decision was made for me.

Do you need the keypad? The Diamond is a little less expensive but does not have the slide out keyboard. I actually find that I use the touch screen keyboard for internet browsing because it is easier to manuever the stylus when I'm using it for everything else.

Waiting for the new phone to come out wouldn't make sense, as the price would be higher... but if you can't get a good price on the Touch Pro or Diamond, I suspect the prices on those will lower soon enough as people scramble for the new phone. If you can hold out, that might be your next best option.

Where is everyone finding this phone for under $500 WITHOUT signing a new contract? Every place I've looked wants me to spell upwards of 400-500 dollars for a Touch Pro or Diamond unless I get a new plan.

I am not eligible to sign a new contract as mine is less than two years old. Even if it were older than two year, I was under the impression that they wouldn't allow you to sign a new SERO plan contract because they are not offering it anymore and want people to switch to the SE plan they have now.

But yeah, even if I'm wrong about that, I'm technically still under my SERO contract anyway, thus not eligible to upgrade.

Call up Sprint and tell them you want to become a Sprint Premier Customer and then you can upgrade your phone every year and yes you can Extend your SERO plan for another 2 years. They cant make you change your plan just becuase its not offered any longer.

Oops, my misunderstanding. I thought you were the OP and were 2 weeks out.

Without upgrade, I doubt you will be able to find a really good price on a new phone. You might get lucky on ebay or craiglist.

I re-signed on December and had no trouble re-newing my SERO account.

What is stopping you from swapping the phones on the website? There is an automated "activate your phone" feature which doesn't care if you are on SERO or whatever.

My rep had to call Sprint to access my account too. Meanwhile, I was filling out their renewal paperwork so they knew I was fully intending to make the purchase. I don't think they'll put the effort forward if you don't seem committed.

Make conversation, be charming and polite. It makes them more likely to want to help you. My rep had to call 2 different numbers because I'd had a phone return within a week and a half (I returned my $399 Touch Pro to get their $199 Touch Pro).

This may already be general knowledge, but after several phone calls and web attempt I found out that you can't keep SERO and upgrade through a site like WireFly.com. I'm looking to get either the BB Curve 8330, LG Lotus, or Samsung Rant. BestBuy prices vs. Sprint.com for upgrade are same for Curve, same for Lotus, and $20 less at BestBuy for Rant. BTW, Sprint CSR said BlackBerry Curve 8330 would work w/ my SERO-500 plan.

Has anyone had success upgrading and keeping SERO from a site/store other than Sprint.com or BestBuy?

My contract expires in May, I'm at the 22 month mark, but I need a phone soon since my current phone is gone for good.

We tried to get Blacberry curve with SERO . It does work with Sero plan but you can not access web. You have to get another plan from blacberry which is additinal $30/month. So we returned the phone back. We bought that from bestbuy.

they too rejected me without even trying saying they can do nothing with sero accounts.

I was *just* able to upgrade in-store at BestBuy and keep my SERO plan fully intact. They pulled up my SERO account on the computer in the cell phone department and were able to see all the SERO details. No problems whatsoever.

i hate continuously being lied to by these places. i got back from a sprint corporate store and THEY wouldn't exchange my phone because of my sero plan. i got BACK on the online chat and asked that i be mailed an exchange phone and a return kit to send back the blackberry curve and he wants me to pay for the exchange phone up front and then when they get the returned phone, i would get a bill credit. let me get this straight, you want me to pay ten months in advance for a sprint f@ck-up? screw you sprint. f@cking screw you. he then told me i could go back to the corporate store and tell them that i have an individual account with just a sero plan rather than a sero account and that they are "required" to assist in my exchange so i guess i'll be doing that. hell, i'm not even going to mention what plan i have this time, i'll just say i want an exchange and show them the packing slip. the packing slip doesn't show the price so i'm hoping i can pay just an extra $10 and turn my curve into a htc touch pro. since my plan was transferred to me, it is already a year through so i will say that they can see i'm eligible for an upgrade in august and tell them i paid full price for the blackberry which is $570 compared to the full price of $580 for the htc. will update with results

So for anyone interested in upgrading to the Palm PRE in the future, can SERO plans upgrade to this phone, or do have to have a different monthly plan?

Unknown at this time. We probably won't know until the Pre is released.

Sprint's and Palm just confirmed during a webcast conference that the Pre is still on target for a release in the first half of 2009 and will use Sprint's "Everything" line of plans.

Individuals can choose from 450 minute ($69.99), 900 minute ($89.99) or unlimited plans ($99.99). Families can choose from 1500 minutes ($129.99), 3000 minutes ($169.99) or unlimited plans ($189.99). Business customers will also be able to pool their minutes together using about 5 different plans. They don't want people signing up for voice-only plans because they don't want people incurring extra charges they're not entirely aware of.

My guess is that SERO plans will not be able to upgrade, but maybe there are different SERO plans.

This kinda sucks!

I've found the easiest way to do a handset swap is to call tech support especially if you are going from pcs vision phone to evdo or vice versa. The tech told me its kind of a pain. He had to locate the product code for the sero plan I was changing to.

Great information guys. I'm in the same boat as some of you. I have the htc mogul and hate it with a passion now. (low battery life, can't see the screen outside even on a cloudy day, bluetooth is finicky, etc,).

1. I want to get away from htc, so I'm looking hard at the BB curve, but if I understand it correctly, I have to add $30 to my sero1250 bill.(true?).

2. I can wait for palm pre, but there is no guarantee that I will be able to keep my sero plan if I upgrade, right?

3. And I can only upgrade (w/o paying full price) when my contract is up?

4. If I bit the bullet and went with the htc touch pro, I would renew my contract again (2years), and get it for $200 (on a bestbuy sale) - $300?

I am glad I got the sero, but dealing with sprint was as much fun as a root canal. I'm afraid to change anything!

The vast majority of Sprint (and Verizon) phones are not world phones, save for a few exceptions. If you buy a CDMA phone, expect it to work in the US, Canada and South Korea.

hell, i'm not even going to mention what plan i have this time, i'll just say i want an exchange and show them the packing slip. the packing slip doesn't show the price so i'm hoping i can pay just an extra $10 and turn my curve into a htc touch pro. since my plan was transferred to me, it is already a year through so i will say that they can see i'm eligible for an upgrade in august and tell them i paid full price for the blackberry which is $570 compared to the full price of $580 for the htc. will update with results

Sprint corporate stores are supposed to deal with end users, not employee accounts, so if they do decide to help it's at the manager's discretion. Assuming they do help, and assuming they can pull up your account info they WILL be able to see how much you paid. It's pretty stupid to try and pull a fast one on them.

SERO is a great deal, but it's also not a regular retail offering. It never was. You shouldn't expect to be able to do everything a retail customer can do. If you want the flexibility of being able to use a local store, then you'll have to pay retail price like a regular person. ;)

Is it just me?

1) Yes. BB data is not included in SERO. It's an extra charge.

2) At this time that is unknown.

3) Yes. If you want a subsidy discount, you have to wait until your contract is almost up. Otherwise, you have to pay full price for the phone. Sprint isn't going to give you a discount on a new phone just because a new phone came out.

4) Some people have had luck upgrading through a Best Buy, but it takes a few extra steps and a willing rep as the SERO plans won't pull up normally in the Best Buy system as they are classed under an employee plan group.

WTH? I just checked my Sprint bill and they removed my corp discount on my Sero plan. Why are they doin this to me??

SERO plans are not compatible with a corp discount as they are already heavily discounted. If you are lucky enough to get a rep to add a code, it's only temporary. As soon as an audit is run, the discount will be removed.

I am also in the same boat trying to upgrade my phone through the website. The email and ID works fine, but my question is: When you order through the Everything Plus website, are they upgrading your plan to Everything Plus? Even if they don't specifically say so, don't you think they have grounds of killing our SERO and automatically upgrading us because we went through this site?

This is where I am at.

The Instinct is out because you have to give up SERO. The blackberrys are out because you have to purchase an additional plan ($$) that defeats for me the advantage of having SERO in the first place. And if you are going to go with Palm the 800w is the best of the lot right now.

As I see it there really isn't any great smartphone for SERO right now. Maybe the HTC Touch Pro but at $300 that is out of my league money wise.
Why doesn't anyone like the HTC Touch Diamond, works with SERO and is much thinner than the Pro.

Apparently my 2-yr contract ended last month. I am still on SERO plan. So.. I don't think they'll switch you to a new plan if your contract ends. However, I would like to view my options for a phone upgrade... and it says that SERO has switched to the Everything Plus program and that I have to go to www.sprint.com/everythingplus to upgrade my phone. But it prompts me for an employee's email and ID number... none of which I have. ???

Thanks. Even though I'm off contract, I'm still only paying $30/month. And I have a Palm Treo.. it's still good enough for me so I don't think I'll be upgrading, which will take me off the SERO plan, unless someone comes up with a foolproof way of upgrading while staying on SERO.

I still have a few months on my SERO plan but I want to replace my phone with a different model (LG Rumor to a smartphone) and still be able to utilize my $30/month rate. I'm willing to extend my contract another 2 years.

Are my options to go to EverythingPlus or does a compatible phone at BestBuy allow for easy exchange for my existing plan. Should I mention my request to Sprint eCare?

Correct. I just got off the phone with Sprint looking into phone options after 1 year with them and was told any phone minus the Pre and Instinct was compatible with my SERO plan.

I got the same message as the previous posters and that is why I decided to call. Even if I could upgrade the phone through the website I wouldn't. There is no way I'd upgrade without talking to someone and getting a guarantee that my plan would not change. It's toooo good of a plan to lose.

On the downside the $75 and $150 they give you towards an upgrade goes against retail price. So the Touch Pro I want would cost me $405 after $75 credit and $100 MIR. No thanks!

I am in the same boat as everyone in this thread except worse...My Mogul physically broke (the flex between the base and LCD ripped). So I have been without a phone (I still have a couple weeks until I am up for 2 yr upgrade.) Seeing as how no one has come up with a solution to staying on SERO I am kinda getting the feeling that I will have to go to everything plus...

I believe so, but to buy it third party means that you would not be eligible for any of the discounts (instant savings and MIR). That equates to a heck of a lot of money. Unless you get it used off craigslist or off eBay. But be warned, one of the phones that I got off eBay was actually reported lost/stolen (total waste of money). And of course eBay decided to do nothing about the situation even after I filed a complaint...

Go to http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/sprint/epc/epclanding.asp and use the employee address for Russ.S.Mcguire@sprint.com and his CID of 383.

If you got through all this, you should now have a new 2 year SERO contract, a new phone of your choice at new subscriber pricing, a $70 credit on your account, and a new pick 3 option giving you a bunch of extra minutes. Good luck!

If you got through all this, you should now have a new 2 year SEO contract, a new phone of your choice at new subscriber pricing, a $70 credit on your account, and a new pick 3 option giving you a bunch of extra minutes. Good luck!

Repped and thanks for info. I have to upgrade my phone in about 2 weeks. Do you know if the rebates for the smartphones work for sero plans?

Repped and thanks for info. I have to upgrade my phone in about 2 weeks. Do you know if the rebates for the smartphones work for sero plans?Yes, the rebates work just like normal which means that they randomly deny about half of them for no real reason. If that happens just call the rebate number and ask why it got denied and they will give it to you.

Thanks!Your plan shouldn't change when you renew, at least none of mine did. Still unlimited data and sms included.

Go to http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/sprint/epc/epclanding.asp and use the employee address for Russ.S.Mcguire@sprint.com and his CID of 383.

I thought we didn't need to renew our contracts to keep the plan? Aren't we just locked in?You don't have to renew to keep your plan, but if you want a discounted phone and the other perks you have to renew. You are planning to keep your SERO anyway, so why not get the perks!

As an update to t-bob's suggestions on renewing my SERO Contract:

I've followed the instructions about emailing e-care through my account page. They've responded real quick and renewed my Contract for another 2 years, no changes on my SERO Plan and I already got the $70 credit applied!! - Great!

Now I'm going to wait a bit before going for the new phone with the $150 credit I have. I want to see if the HTC Touch Diamond goes down in price by the end of this month as the Rebate they have expires this 10th so I figure it will be another Promo..

Thanks for your help t-bob and good luck to the others that are renewing this valuable Plan!

When I reply to them telling that I accept the offer, should I mention that I also want a new phone (Palm Centro), or should I just let them renew, and then later on work on the new phone as you described on ur post? Woohoo! Got my $70 credit. So, this doesn't void my eligibility for a discounted phone once I buy one in the next few weeks? This $70 is *on top of* my rebate(s)/discount on a phone upgrade?

Thanks in advance!

well I'm on the phone with the rep now and she's telling me that they're not "offering" the $70 credit this year. But she went and spoke with her boss and he authorized her to offer me a $50 credit. Doens't make much sense but better than nothing. Now to work on getting the new touch pro 2

I live in Houston and bought Touch Pro for my daughter. She will be going to College - UT Austin and living in a dorm.

Will there be an issue with roaming or out of city coverage since she will be away from home for 4 years?

Should I call Sprint to change coverage?

Thanks.

Most of UT is sketchy service on network at best- at least it was 2 years ago on vacation.

Call sprint & talk to someone until they offer you 'free' roaming (they charge & then credit it monthly...)

Doens't make much sense but better than nothing. Now to work on getting the new touch pro 2Your mistake was that you called customer service. If you want to get the $70 without hassle, you have to contact ecare by email as described in the instructions.

Many people don't realize that the different departments at Sprint such as telephone customer service, ecare, and retentions each operate differently and each have different perks they can offer. The secret is knowing who to ask. If you want the $70 renewal credit, ask ecare. If you want pick 3, ask retentions. Ask a different department for these and you will be told "we aren't offering that this year" or "that feature is no longer available." If you follow my instructions you won't have any problems.

I don't know about this. Are you sure you are selecting correctly to show all phones? There is also a selection to just show Nextel phones. Other than that, I can't think of what could be the problem. Sorry I can't help more with this.

Hey, I was wondering if asking for the service credit will affect my ability to get a phone from say Best Buy or Radioshack. The prices there looks cheaper than Sprint online and w/o the rebate hassle. In that case, would I ask for the service credit first and immediately go to the stores or can I wait a few days?

The $70 credit does not affect your upgrade eligibility. I got the credit 2 days ago and upgraded at Besy Buy today. It went smoothly and they did not have to call sprint like some people say they have experienced. I'm on Sero 1250 and I got the Palm Centro for free. Now I will try to get the pick 3.

Just curious if you mentioned anything about SERO.
Did you just go in and Pay for the phone, sign papers(new contract) etc?
What was exactly involved?
Thanks.

[B]Q.Am I eligible for a contract extension?

I went on Sunday and they did not have any Palm Centros, so they had them transferred from another store. When they called me on Monday and told me they were ready, I went in and told the first salesperson I saw that I was coming in to upgrade and I should have Palm Centros that were shipped from another store. I did not mention I was on the Sero plan. He asked for some account info to verify my account and asked did I want to keep the same plan and then I had to sign electronically. I did not sign paper copies. He did ask if I wanted a paper copy of my contract and I said yes. On that copy it showed my sero plan. Since my phone was free, I only paid for the car charger (they offered 20% off all accesories). The activation fee will be on the sprint bill. He also transferred my contacts via bluetooth.

I ordered the Touch Pro 2 phone yesterday before I was aware of this thread and T-Bob's instructions, so I did not get the $70 credit before I purchased the new phone.

My question is what to do now...should I try to email ecare now and get the credit per the instructions or is it too late since I've already placed the order? Should I cancel the order/return the phone when I get it and start all over getting the $70 first this time? Thanks

Thank your for the instructions.
I just sent an email to ecare to request the $70 credit. I have two questions.
1. There is supposed to be a $50 credit on my account for when I get a new phone (got it from phone customer service 3 months back and haven't and had been waiting for TP2, and confirmed that I can still get the $50 credit yesterday)
Do you think the $50 and $70 will stack?

2. I had asked them via chat to make a note on my account so I could get a new phone from Best Buy.
Can I buy a new phone from best buy and still get all the credits?
What do you guys think?

Thanks for any information.

I paid $449 + tax -$100 MIR = 349+tax after rebate. If you follow T-bobs instructions like I failed to do, you can get a $70 credit making it 279+tax after rebate.

i think you can do it in a couple of months, but your contract will be renewed again for another 2 years from when you order your phonenobelseptember is correct. Your contract gets renewed for 2 years when you get the $70 credit, and renewed again when you get your new handset. Also when you get the Pick 3 they may try to renew your contract, so that is why you should ask for that after you have received the $70 and the new handset.

Thanks for any information.
at

I don't know if the credits will stack, but I don't see why they wouldn't. You will just have to ask and please let us know what happens. I have never upgraded at BB so can't really answer that either, but from reading about other's experiences it seems that it is YMMV and depends on the store. Good luck.

ThanksCouldn't hurt to try emailing ecare and ask for the $70 service credit. They will probably just tell you that you can't have both, but you never know with Sprint reps.

Just got an email back saying they have given me $70 credit.
How long do you guys think I have before I can buy a new phone?
The email says:
Thank you for contacting Sprint about the $70.00 agreement renewal
credit. I am glad to assist you with it.

I have applied the credit of $70.00 on your account for renewing the
subscriber agreement (contract) for the next two years.

The subscriber agreement will now satisfy on September 09, 2011.

Now that my contract has been extended by 2 years. Can I buy a phone Online, telesales, Best Buy, etc?
I would much rather get the HTC Hero over HTC Touch Pro 2, but I am curious to if there is a time period after which I might not get the $150 upgrade credit.
(If Best Buy has TP2, I will get it this weekend. Hate dealing with rebates)

There is no time limit on the $150 credit, so you can wait as long as you want. Keep in mind that your contract will be renewed again when you get your new phone.

You must have renewed your contract a year ago without using your $150 handset credit, so it is still available. You cannot receive the $70 service credit now, you have to wait until you are at 22 months. If you use the $150 handset credit now, your contract will be renewed for 2 years and you will not be able to get the $70 until it is time to renew again. Sorry.

TP2 is a great phone from what I've read. The Hero isn't suppose to be available for us SERO plan holders from what's been rumored around. Just like Palm Pre.. I hope they are wrong cause I really want to upgrade to that one.

Just ordered the TP2 online.
Man, tax was ~$40.

I had asked Sprint CS to make a note on my account for $50 credit that they said they were going to give me.
Earlier today, both from chat and phone CS..they told me there is no such comment on my account.

I am gonna try one last time, I hope the CS didnt lie to me multiple times when they told me they were going to leave a note on my system saying that they were gonna give me $50 credit when I get a new phone. Regardless if its stacks or not.

Also, they told me that I can get the phone on Monday at the latest. That kinda sucked, was hoping to get it by the weekend.

Hey B

How much you've ended up paying out of pocket after $150 upgrade credit for that phone ordering online as per t-bobs instructions?

If Hero is available to SERO are you going to return TP2?

I went on Sunday and they did not have any Palm Centros, so they had them transferred from another store. When they called me on Monday and told me they were ready, I went in and told the first salesperson I saw that I was coming in to upgrade and I should have Palm Centros that were shipped from another store. I did not mention I was on the Sero plan.

Yuck, don't get a Palm Centro now. It's actually my phone right now, got it almost 1.5 years ago. The interface is prehistoric compared to the latest phone user interfaces (iphone, android, webos). I'd wait and see if the Palm Pixi will be allowed on Sero, that's basically a Centro with webos.

Edit: sorry for the off topic rant.

I paid ~$487 after $150 credit. Got the $70 renewas, and finally was told that they will also honor $50 (but in next statement). Also waiting to hear back on $100 instate rebate.

So if all goes according to plan (knock on wood), I am looking at
$487-50-70-100=~267.

I was waiting on the Palm Pre since the rumors started, then looked at HTC Snap and Palm Treo Pro.
The keyboard on TP2 really sold me, the specs arent that impressive.
I will use the TP2 until Hero comes out, and test it at Sprint store.

Ever since my Moto Q, I started to dispise Windows Mobile OS. They have come a long ways, but they still have a long ways to go.

I dont like the keys on Palm Pre, Treo Pro and Snap. HTC Hero has no physical keyboard. But the capacitive screen might lead to a pretty robust keyboard. But really want to try the Android platform.

So after being 6-7 months out of contract with SERO, i am set until 9/11/2011 ^^

Lets hope the HTC Touch Pro 2 will live up to the hype (might attempt to put Android on it if there is a way, as an experiment)

nobelseptember is correct. Your contract gets renewed for 2 years when you get the $70 credit, and renewed again when you get your new handset. Also when you get the Pick 3 they may try to renew your contract, so that is why you should ask for that after you have received the $70 and the new handset.

Hi, t-bob,

Does the handset upgrade extend the contract 2 more years on top of 2 years of $70 credit, and extend another 2 years for the pick 3, so the total is 6 years? Or the 2 years of contract extension starts from the day of action, if the above order is followed? Thanks.

The $70 service credit and the $150 handset credit each extend your contract for 2 years from the date you use them, but they don't stack so you never have a contract for more than 2 years. If you are out of contract when you ask for the pick 3, they will try to renew your contract, so that it why you should ask for that after you have renewed, not before.

I actually quite like the phone, so it works for me. It does everything I need it to do and more. I can put it on my sero plan and I got it for free without having to use rebates. I did consider waiting on a similar phone to come out, but according to what I found online they have been talking about this phone or a similar one coming out for a long time, but who knows when it really will come out? From what I have read it will most likely be sometime next year and I needed a phone now because mine was on it's last legs. It seems like this new phone probably will not have been out that long before it is time for me to upgrade again.

Everyone gets the $150 handset credit automatically, the $70 is an additional perk that can be used as a tool to encourage renewals. Sprint would prefer that you renew without using either, but if you understand the system you can get both.

When I try to purchase a phone using these instructions it tells me:

We’re sorry, but the number you entered does not match any found in the Everything Plus Referral Program (formerly Sprint Exclusive Referral Offer/SERO). If your phone is not part of the Everything Plus (formerly SERO) program, try upgrading your phone by closing your browser, then reopening it and going to www.sprint.com. If you are part of the Everything Plus (formerly SERO) program, try entering your number again.

Is this because I might still be on the old billing system?Don't know the answer to that one, but sounds like that could be your problem. I'd suggest that you go ahead and call telesales (888-882-4030). They will still ask you for the email and cid, so just use Russ's info. If they try to get you to change plans, tell them you aren't interested in that and you know that you do not have to change. If they insist, then try another rep. Good luck.

OK, I am going to help out all of you old SERO users to renew your contract and come out as good as you can. You will need to follow this tutorial in the proper order to get everything to work the way it should. I have four old SERO $30 plans and this worked for me.
...

If you got through all this, you should now have a new 2 year SERO contract, a new phone of your choice at new subscriber pricing, a $70 credit on your account, and a new pick 3 option giving you a bunch of extra minutes. Good luck!

First off, awesome post. You have been repped :)

Second, I had questions about unlimited text messages. I vaguely remember when I signed up for sero 21 months and 2 weeks ago that it said unlimited free text msgs for the first 2 years of contract. I have never been charged for any texts. However, when I log into my account, it says under my plan overview:

* Sprint Fair & Flex
* Caller ID
* Adjustable Anytime Minutes
* Call Waiting
* Three-way Calling
* $30.00 Minimum Monthly Charge
* Voicemail
* Nationwide Long Distance Included
* Unlimited Night & Weekend Mins. Included
* Nights: M-Th 7PM-7AM Wknd: F 7PM-M 7AM
* Unlimited Mobile to Mobile (pcs to Pcs)
Monthly charge for service plan $0.00

There is no mention of the unlimited text msgs. Additionally under "addons" it states

Available plan add-ons:
International Dialing Capability $0.00
Sprint International Long Distance Plan $4.00
Mexico International Long Distance $5.00
Messaging - 1000 $10.00
Roadside Rescue $4.00
Canada Roaming Option $2.99
Total Equipment Protection $7.00
Messaging - 300 $5.00
Messaging - Unlimited $20.00

giving me the "option" to buy more texts although I have unlimited texts msgs. I am a little nervous that the unlimited text msg perk will not carry over when I renew following your awesomely detailed instructions.

So my questions are:

When you (or anyone else) logs into sprint.com with the same unlimited texts msgs perk as me, is it missing from your plan overview? If so, you were able to still get the free text msgs renewed?

If not, do you think instead of asking for pick 3 I could ask for that instead? I have never gone over my 500 min per month :O

Thank you t-bob (and anyone else) who can help me with this :)

"As per the promotional offer we offer one time $70.00 credit to those Sprint customers whose agreement has been already satisfied and want to renew the agreement for next two years. Agreement of the line will satisfy on October 07, 2009. So, after October 07, 2009 you can renew the agreement for next two years and can get one time credit of $70.00 as per the promotional offer. I have added the supportive notes on your account regarding this."

That date is when my full 2 year contract is up, According to Sprint's website, I can already get the $150 discount on new phones since August. Does this mean I'll just have to wait it out for the full 2 years?

I got my Pick 3 last month. The first time I called, they cheerfully added it but it didn't show up on my account. I called again and the rep cheerfully put it on again, made some other "fix" to my plan (don't know, don't really care at this point :)), and proceeded to add Pick 2. Not a big deal for me since Google Voice is the only one I really use.

Late last night, I followed your instructions and emailed ecare. This morning, I had an affirmative response and the $70 credit is already applied. My bill for October is -$34 something!

I'm still using my old 755p. My account still shows that I'm eligible for the $150 upgrade.

t-bob, I was more-or-less familiar with everything in your post, but your clear instructions made the process incredibly easy. Thanks for taking the time to do that! Reps.

You never know with Sprint, but it has been going on for more than a year already so I doubt it.

I am in the same boat as you. I was set on the TP2 but then thought about the Diamond2. There has been absolutely NO confirmation that Sprint will get that phone, there hasn't even been rumor. Sprint is however getting the HTC Hero (http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=1198329&u2=http://www.unwiredview.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/HTC-Hero-Sprint-CDMA.jpg) [unwiredview.com (http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=1198329&u2=http://www.unwiredview.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/HTC-Hero-Sprint-CDMA.jpg)] next month which I am now contemplating. I will take a tiny hit in screen size and large hit in resolution over the TP2 but this phone seems pretty cool. After having the PPC6700 the past 2.5 years I think I might be ready for a slim phone. The worst that happens if I don't like the on screen keyboard is I return it within the 30 days and get the TP2.

Looking foward getting the Hero myself as long as Sprint don't charge an arm and a leg for it for people like us that want to upgrade.I know is gonna be under $200 for new costumers but have you guys heard anything on how much the Hero is gonna be if you want to upgrade?Thx!

ok i emailed ecare and they responded with this:

I have also applied the credit of $70.00 for renewing
the agreement on the account. After this credit adjustment, your
account has a credit balance of $70.00. This credit will reflect on the
next invoice.

as of right now, there is nothing on my account that reflects a $70 credit. Should I wait until my next invoice (which is not until like like another 4 weeks) or can I go head and purchase a phone through the EPRP site? i really want the the TP2 and my current phone (original touch) is acting up. please please tell me i can go head and buy it now :look:

That total is before the $100 MIR, but yes it is a very expensive phone. There is a rumor that Sprint will lower the price of the TP2 to $199 after the MIR on Oct 1st. Guess we will see in a couple of days.

Go to http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/sprint/epc/epclanding.asp and use the employee address for Russ.S.Mcguire@sprint.com and his CID of 383.

If you got through all this, you should now have a new 2 year SERO contract, a new phone of your choice at new subscriber pricing, a $70 credit on your account, and a new pick 3 option giving you a bunch of extra minutes. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, i've gotten the service credit from step 1, but on step 2 i tried to enter the email and cid and gotten this message:

Will the $70 service credit eliminate my $150 phone credit?
(Sorry in advanced if this is a stupid question, but I just want to double check because $150 is a lot of money!!!)

So my $150 phone upgrade just showed up in my account today. And as soon as I saw it I sent an email to Sprint to see if I could get the $70 service credit. Just to double check before I go ahead and accept the $70 service credit (which they will hopefully offer me, since I should be eligible), doing that won't eliminate my $150 phone credit will it?

Also, do I have to order the phone through the EPRP website? I notice that when I click on upgrade from my account page it just takes me to the normal Sprint site to upgrade.

Thanks!

I just read this because of the link a few posts up. Are you trying to tell me that you can renew your contract (obviously, to get the $70 credit) and THEN buy a phone at new subscriber pricing a little while after? That is strange - I would have thought that it was the other way around: to get the 'regular' discount on a phone you have to sign/renew your contract. I could totally see some of the Sprint reps telling you after you've renewed already that you're SOL if you want special pricing on the phone at that point.

So sprint gave me the $70 service credit today. I checked my plan details, it still say SERO F&F 500 and my unlimited texts is still there. And my $150 phone credit that showed up on my account yesterday remained on my account! t-bob is awesome! I guess I will go through the EPRP website and get a phone soon. Just hoping the price of the touch pro 2 drops some or a newer cheaper SERO compatible phone gets released soon. I guess I'll enjoy the 2 free months of service until then.

Your account is eligible for $70.00 service rebate. Your account is also
eligible for $150.00 handset rebate. Both the rebate needs 2 years of

I don't get it. Are you asking for both together when you ask? Or did the CSR preemptively strike you down when you asked for the $70 renewal credit by saying something like "just so you know, if you do this you can't get the $150 phone rebate that you normally could if you bought a phone"? ... because if you tried to double dip by asking for both at the same time, well that's just dumb.

I followed the instructions and got $70 credit. My Sprint account shows both $70 credit and $150 upgrade credit. After one day I emailed ecare asking if Sprint is price matching Verizon $199 price match. I did not mention anything about using $150 upgrade credit or $70 loyalty discount I got.

The rep said that they would not do it since I am not business customer. She suggested me to use the sprint web site or telesales to buy the phone for $350 after using $150 upgrade discount that I am eligible for. She also said she is seeing a $70 loyalty discount on my account and if I use $150 upgrade discount then $70 credit will be reverted my account.

I've been dealing with retentions. Tried e-chat on Friday while I was at work 4 times; no dice.

So on Saturday I started calling retentions. On my 5th or so call, I finally got a rep that SOUNDED knowledgeable. She once again initially shot me down using the corporate account excuse. I explained to her I became a customer yesterday, and have no problem canceling and going to Verizon (yea right, I have SERO). So she said she couldn't do $150; as her maximum is $50. So she spoke to her supervisor, who said he would do $100 and that's how I got it. I ordered the phone at that time, through retentions. I had to pay on cc since I just became a customer; which isn't a problem for me. It has shipped and should arrive Tuesday (fingers crossed for Monday).

So, I asked if I could do this for a friend of mine (an existing customer). She said she'll try. We 3-wayed and was able to do it for him as well. However, my friend within a few hours saw a $100 credit on his account; I however did not. I said I'll give it overnight. This morning; nothing. I'm not sure if it's because I have the $70 loyalty credit, but no credit for me. I called in this morning, and on my 3rd or so call, got a rep who just flat out said, let me check, came back and said yes I can do that. No BS about corporate. She again said she can only do $50, but submitted the $100 to her supervisor. She said the credits should process within 24 hours. So, now I wait. Good luck to you.

What's the freaking magic for the $70 credit? It sounds like a piece of cake from you guys, but I emailed 3 times and called once, saying I got a postcard/flyer saying this renewal credit, and each time they said they did not offer any renewal credit but asked me to email the scan of the postcard/flyer in order to issue the credit.

If not you are unlikely to get the credit. If you are at 22 months then I don't know why you can't get it. There may be some other criteria that I am not aware of.

What if you are past 22 months (almost 36 months in my case)? Can you still get the 70$ credit? I never renewed my contract so I assume I'm month to month on the SERO plan.

OPs instruction says:

2. After the sevice credit issue is resolved one way or the other then you can get your new phone. Don't try to get the phone before the service credit because the credit MUST come first. Go to http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/sp...anding.asp and use the employee address for Russ.S.Mcguire@sprint.com and his CID of 383.

For some reason above link giving me an error. OP can you please provide above link again?

Thanks

Okay. I received the $70 credit. After selecting a phone I'm getting the following...

"We’re sorry, but the number you entered does not match any found in the Everything Plus Referral Program (formerly Sprint Exclusive Referral Offer/SERO). If your phone is not part of the Everything Plus (formerly SERO) program, try upgrading your phone by closing your browser, then reopening it and going to www.sprint.com. If you are part of the Everything Plus (formerly SERO) program, try entering your number again.

Please add an account to your profile to continue."

Anybody getting this? Please help. Thanks.

Are you sure you still have SERO? When my gf renewed her SERO 500 last year her plan was no longer listed as SERO F&F 500 and instead showed up as F&F 500. Maybe that happened to you? See if you can order the phone through the regular website. I have a SERO 500 account and when I tried to look at upgrades I couldn't do it through the regular Sprint site and could only do it through the EPRP site. Maybe your situation is the opposite?

Yeah it's showing as F&F 500. I tried the regular web site but not getting the price listed in the ESRP.

Just look at the phones available without logging into your account.
If you want to confirm pricing and either order via the live chat feature or by calling them.

You know how the new phones say sometihng like $199 after 2 year agreement

or something like that...

So you would be getting the phone for $199 and you would be getting $70 off so you'd get it for $130?

Or do you not get it at the $199 price? (hypothetical numbers)

the $70 would be an account credit, so yes, basically the phone would be $130

I'm in the same boat. Still shows F & F 500 after receiving the $70 rebate, but when I click on Upgrade phone I get the same message about not having a valid account.

I do show that I am eligable for the $150 Phone rebate. So the deal is you have to order thru chat?

Just got the $70 renewal credit x 2 (for two lines on my account) applied via the method recommended by t-bob.:woot::woot::woot: Will be repping you t-bob

Thing to note, I was under 22 months into my current contract. Prior to this renewal, my plan was going to expire January 11, 2010. So YMMV, if you have more than 2 months to go till contract expiration.

It is compatible to a certain level....you can use it for phone and internet (via Opera etc) but you cannot use all the BB features/applications unless you get the BIS/or BES upgrade or get the service books pushed to the Tour. BIS/ or the BES upgrade costs $0-$30, depends on the deal you are able to talk the CSR rep into....Service books are free if you can get it pushed. There are threads on this site for BIS (search Sero BIS) and howardforums.com for pushing BB service books.....good luck AND HAPPY SEARCHING

Isn't it easier to get the $70 renewal credit and a new phone from the local store? Not if you have SERO. Stores don't want to work with SERO plans because they were only sold online. If you call, the reps will tell you that you have to upgrade to a more expensive plan. So you might be able to get it done at a store or by calling, but it is YMMV. It is really easiest to just renew a SERO plan online following the instructions in the wiki.

Thanks. But the eCare reply I got lets me choose EITHER the $70 credit (then no $150 phone upgrade discount for 1 year) OR the $150 phone upgrade discount...

Should I e-mail eCare again to see if I can get a nicer rep?

Should I e-mail eCare again to see if I can get a nicer rep? That is the "official" Sprint position, that you can only have one of the discounts. However, most of us just take the $70 from ecare, then go online and use the $150 credit without problems.

t-bob..I was reading the wiki..and is that ALL you were able to accomplish? It seems like you might have scored more maybe (phone discounts, more plan add-ons etc.?)

I already have Pick 3 on my account and I know about the renewal credit but I really want to haggle with them on the price of the phone or get a discount on my bill. Suggestions? What perks do you have on SERO?

Dzap - I remember you from the original SERO threads and remember reading when you first got SERO. I never posted on SD back then but did get SERO based on Malyshka's WIKI/posts. Those threads were addictive.

What perks do you have on SERO?Hey dzap, glad to see that you are still around. For those of us who are familiar with Sprint, you can certainly do alot better than this. I wrote these instructions in response to some discussion by SERO users who were not sure how to renew their plan. It is the basic renewal starting point for renewing SERO. Experienced Sprint SERO users can also still get free BIS, 6pm N&W, and pick 5 without too much effort. I think that FIMF and 5pm N&W are no longer available, but I don't know that for sure. It also seems that corporate discounts can no longer be added to SERO, although some discounts have survived the transition to ensemble. I haven't tried negotiating the price of a phone recently, but reading other sites suggests that it may be much more difficult now to get discounts from retentions. Just some things to think about if you are preparing to renew.

Sprint gave me a $150 rebate after one year on the Samsung Ace (go figure!), so I decided to upgrade my phone and came across Samsung Intrepid, seems like a heck of a phone in a little package and not screaming for attention like some others... Thought about it for a while and went for it per wiki instructions, and the phone is in shipping.... I have a few questions which i could not clearly judge from the threads above:
a) the phone price was $149 after $100 MIR, so does that mean that the phone will come without cost after the $150 rebate? now in my account online, i do not see the rebate and i will have to end up paying $149 + taxes after instant rebates and MIR
b) does the phone come activated? or should I call CS? will I face any issues there? , I am trying to figure out how to deactivate my current phone and activate the new one.
Thanks for your time and t-bob, you rock!

The $150 phone credit was part of the "instant discount" you got from Sprint when you ordered online. Basically you will be paying $249+tax on your next Sprint bill. You will get your $100 MIR a month or so later. But don't forget to mail it in, they should include the proper MIR form inside the box your phone comes in. It should be the EPRP MIR form. When you get the phone it will not be activated. All you need to do is log into your Sprint account and click the activate new phone link and follow the on screen instructions. It will tell you to enter some information from the phone, etc. Then you should be all set.

Thanks t-bob for posting those detailed instructions it worked like a charm for me. I was able to get the $70 loyalty discount and get the Touch Pro 2 for the $350 new customer price. I probably won't bother with pick 3 since I average only 200 anytime minutes a month and already get unlimited texts with my SERO 500.

correct me if i am wrong please.
the htc hero cost $279.99 with a $100.00 mial in rebate. so if i have a $150 upgrade credit the phone should only cost $29.99 after the mail in rebate?

$279.99(hero) - $100.00(mail in rebate) - $150.00(upgrade credit) = $29.99
