I'm trying to find a bank, in Florida if possible, that pays a high yielding CD and is FDIC insured. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried BANKRATE.com but all the banks are ones I've never heard of.

The bigger, popular banks don't need your business as much, and won't offer good rates.
Consider some of the online entities (ING, HSBC, H&R Block) as well.
Or, if you want to be really safe, just get treasury bonds.

Most of the local banks will run ads in the newspaper listing their rates and any specials... especially for new accounts...we actually found some better deals that way rather than bankrate. Normally I'd say bankrate or maybe try what the others here have suggested. Good luck...
