There's some superb videos on YouTube worth watching.

Finding a good camera forum to hang out on will also help (photography-on-the.net is great, though it's meant for Canon users; Fred Miranda (http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/) is another great one. There's plenty more around. Join one of these forums, look at their various galleries, and decide what type of photography you really want to focus on. Learn what you can, when you can via the forum itself, or Google searches. And even if you're a total newb, try to partake in any weekly/monthly photo contests the forum you join holds - you'll get plenty of good feedback and suggestions if you ask for it.

Immediately, the first things I'd suggest learning about (and how each of them effects your image) are:

Aperture ( f/x.x )
Depth of Field (this will relate to aperture)
ISO
Exposure time

Those 3 things will have the largest immediate impact on your photography. After you feel comfortable with those, you'll naturally begin noticing more about lighting, and eventually, composition.

One other thing I might suggest is taking at least one photo every day. Perhaps revisit a previous shot to try to improve upon it. Practice definitely makes perfect here.

There's a lot to the hobby, too much for any one book, blog, or forum to contain. Just keep shooting, and you'll figure it out. :)

I recommend the book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson.

There are lots of good references on the web, too.
