I have a ML-150 G5 server and need more RAM.

It was preinstalled with a Hynix 1GBx2 server ram, and I bought another 1GBx2 server ram for 60 dollars. (http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=1164075&u2=http://www.valleyseek.com/product.action?itemID=112401) after tax/shipping.

I wanted to get this much cheaper server ram for 48 dollars for 2GB sticks (http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=1164075&u2=http://www.newegg.com/Product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134652) but Kingston doesn't say its compatible.

I was wondering whether its worth the risk of buying the ValueRAM despite the fact that Newegg doesn't allow returns on it.

I need at least 8GB in the server, and will have placed 4GB in four slots by the time the 60 dollar ram comes in.

Does anyone know if there is ram available that would be compatible with this server, and be as cheap as the Value Ram? I want to have 2GBx2 sticks, for under 100-110 dollars?

I've attached my system specs in the attachment. Thanks :)

Also does anyone know about the RAM limit on this server? It says 32GB from the motherboard, but HP says 16GB?

Here is my original thread in tech support (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=120804&t=1164075)

for at least 8gb in the server, i would've gone straight to a 2x4gb kit, which would've left 2 slots empty for further upgrades down the road.

for your 2x2gb kit to go with your 4x1gb existing, use the memory configurator at crucial.com and buy direct. no muss, no fuss, be done in under 5 minutes, and what you get will JustWork™

if you use their configurator, what they sell you will be _guaranteed_ compatible, and if they do happen to goof (has only happened to us once in 8+ years of doing business with them), they will take good care of you. we always buy memory direct from crucial for systems and servers that are fussy about what you put in them, or if we need to be absolutely certain that memory will work right the first time (e.g. shipping a memory upgrade off to a data center for them to install for us).

as far as buying "off the shelf" memory that you don't have that all-important compatibility guarantee, or good return policy..... not worth the risk unless you've got other equipment that you *know* it would work in if it doesn't work in the intended system...
