I think this is an EXCELLENT idea, Kel and the announcement couldnt have come at a better time.
:woot: :woot: :woot:
I have another idea similar I would like to contribute.
How about a DEAD POST button, similar to the Mod Alert button so the MODS arent overwhelmed with dead posts. If members come across a post that has expired or is beneficial for another country ( excluding Canada, maybe ).
If possible, the dead posts can go to a dead-post receptical that MODs can see and if a post was mistakenly deleted, can be resurected by a MOD.
Of course, the dead post will show up in the repost checker so its not reposted again and again.
I dont know if thats at all possible but it may help some of the topical clutter we seem to have.

How do you define "Dead Post?"

How do you define "Dead Post?"
:iagree:
We would have to figure out what is dead vs. what link is broken vs. what deal works with IE but not with FF, etc.
As for the Moderator, it doesn't take much for a post to be re-titled to *DEAD* __________

Even if a thread or post is "dead," (however that were to be defined), it can still be beneficial to have that information available for future deals, or for people who participated in the deal originally and need info about a rebate, shipping, features, etc.. Also, some "dead" deals get resurrected, either by more stock coming into the warehouse, or the vendor extends the deadline, etc..
IMHO, there is little to be gained by deleting such posts and threads (and much to be lost). This is true even when a nooB inadvertently responds to a deal that is a year old, bringing the thread back up to the top of the list.

unless, maybe it can be moved to a different sub forum like
- Slick Deals
- Hot Deals
- - Deaslickdeals
- Freebies
- - Dead Freebies
- - Free Magazines
- - - Dead Free Magazines

Dead deal, no more, dead link ( 404 ) all gone, over, exausted...
Also, some "dead" deals get resurrected, either by more stock coming into the warehouse, or the vendor extends the deadline, etc..
Thats kind of what I mean here. A lot of old threads that have been dead and gone but not labled that way being resurected by someone, usually someone who doesnt see the original post date.
.....different sub forum.....
Even better idea. A dead post sub forum!
Thanks for the other links, 77Pat. Didnt realize this had been covered already.

Hmm, I have to go with Xnarg on this one. The idea has merit, but you're asking for trouble from the natives if you start shuffling around deals that are "dead". Many would argue that a thread is not dead, even if the deal is, because there's still ongoing discussion about shipment dates, correctly received product, rebate processing, etc etc.
However, I was not aware of the link-checker code until I saw this thread and I think that is a VERY neat trick.
Question: Does the link-checker also apply to current events, lounge/podium material? It'd be neat to see a bit of reduction in the amount of news stories or "funny vid clip of cat falling off a TV" links that get reposted.

Check this out, the lounge is going under major reconstruction. What about if hot deals has the same icons which are going to be implemented into the lounge... just different words. Each describing whether is is Dead, YMMV, AR, AC etc.?
