So I'm in the market for a new/refurbished laptop.
I want a laptop that can hold its own when it comes to 2008 games and some upcoming '09 titles. I've never heard of this site called RefurbDepot.com, but a friend of mine has ordered from there a couple times and had no trouble.
I did some looking around and found a refurbished system I like,
https://www.refurbdepot.com/productdetails2.cfm?Product_ID=6959
From the specs it looks like it can handle pretty well. I'm only concerned about a few things from this site, 1) if they are trust worthy. I've read a couple reviews about items being out of stock when it said they were. Thats not a huge concern for me, as long as it ships within a respectable amount of time, I'm happy. And 2) Their 3 year warranty for only $60 seems a bit too good to be true.
I have a back-up laptop set up from the HP site with the following specs:
– Moonlight White
– Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
– Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P7450 (2.13GHz)
– FREE Upgrade to 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
– FREE Upgrade to 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
– 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4530
– 17.3" diagonal HD+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1600 x 900)
– LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
– Webcam Only
– Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
– No TV Tuner w/remote control
– HP Color Matching Keyboard
– 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
– No Modem
– Microsoft® Works 9.0
I got this down to 969.99 with a 2 year warranty included.
I've been going crazy looking at laptops over the weekend and can't focus on this paper I need to write. So I say to you SlickDealers... HALP?
*edit: My price range is about $1k

1) What is your budget?
Under $1,000 including at least a 2 year warranty.
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
c. Mainstream; 16" screen
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Avoid Toshiba unless its an outstanding deal.
4) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Everday use, but primarily gaming.
5) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Most of the time leaving it on my desk, so a bigger screen is preferred.
6) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Yes, a lot of 2007 - 2008 titles as well as upcoming '09 titles.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
More than 2 is fine, it will be plugged in 95% of the time.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
No
9) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
Windows Vista, 64-bit for more RAM.
Screen Specifics
1) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
Either one works.
2) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
Standard
b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA.
or
c. UXGA - 1600x1200 - Very small text and graphics icons, you can fit lots of stuff on the screen.
Widescreen
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
or
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
3) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Does not matter.
Build Quality and Design
1) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
As long as it is not outlandishly ugly such as that HP Bronze notebook, specific style does not matter.
2) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
I would like to order sometime during this week, March 9th - 13th. I would like it to last 2+ years.
Notebook Components
1) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 200GB?
200GB+
2) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive?
Yes, DVD is fine, but if it comes with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD for a reasonable price, I won't complain.

Can you wait for sometime? HP releases coupons now and then and then dv7t will be good for your requirements
How long is "sometime"? The current HP laptop I'm using has a dead video card/useless mobo because of it. I'm forced to run in safe-mode with a beautiful 800x600 visually stunning display.
The dv7t I listed above from HP has a $400 off coupon which like I said including warranty is down to 970$
How long do you think I'd have to wait before I get a better deal then that? Also, could you comment on that Laptop from RefurbDepot.com I have linked?
Thanks for your help :)

I think they should be out soon
I have seen them as frequent as once every 15 days or so
So you want to consider 15" laptops also?

If the laptop is built well enough then I wouldn't mind a 15" I could always set up a monitor for when I use it at home.

That's more or less the exact set-up I have mine for listed above. In order to use the coupon, your order total must meet $1,199 or more, and it adds the either -150 or -250 to get it to $-400 off.

Yeah, thats what I feared. I'm a bit impatient when it goes to big decisions like this, especially if its something I need.
While I wait I guess, how do you feel these two stack-up?

hi,
Can anyone know anything about the 3 year extented warranty for 59$? It seems too good to be reliable... Who offers it? HP? Refurbdepot? Thirdparty?
Thanks,
