I'm buying a brand spankin' new car and I'm worried about it getting stolen, so I want to protect my investment.

I remember reading an article about a guy in india who made a car security system out of his cell phone. It used text messages to notify you if the car was started, remotely shut down the car, and grab GPS coordinates, but I haven't been able to find a DIY solution like his.

So, I'm looking for a solution that is similar. The main features I'm interested in are remote shutdown and the ability to get GPS coordinates. Using text messages over a GSM cellular network is a plus since my current provider is ATT.

I've found some GSM car alarms, but most are made in china or by companies I've never heard of before, and I worry about the quality. Does anyone have any recommendations for a product that suits my needs?

Link for some items very similar to what I'm talking about:

Any input would be appreciated!
