I am looking for Canon XSi kit, New.
With live cashback I can get new Canon XSi + 18-55 IS for around $600 at ebay from power seller with 99+% rating. Is it OK to purchase camera from ebay?
How does USA warranty work in these cases?

Thanks for the help.

This is the information I received when inquiring about purchases through e-bay and other websites:
As long as the camera is "new in box" with a Canon USA Limited Warranty card in the box, and the camera is purchased from a company, not an individual, the warranty should be valid.
However, if the camera is used, or purchased from an individual, the warranty does not transfer. Also, the warranty does not depend on registration. In the rare case that your camera may require warranty service in the future, you will still be asked to provide a copy of your proof-of-purchase. Make sure you keep it in a safe place for your records.

Hope that helps.

i got it on ebay for $510 when cashback was at 25%
but absolutely make sure that it is the USA verison. the european verison of xsi is called 450D and alot of ebay sellers will try to scam you by putting pictures of both the xsi and 450D.
it actually happened to me, so just beware. make sure you ask them before you buy it. i was able to switch the cameras because i kept sending complaint emails to them.

Wow, I got lucky, then. I bought a Canon A650IS off Craig's List, and noticed a red hot pixel after I got home, and the seller was nice enough to send me a scan of the original receipt, and I sent the camera into Canon's repair depot (as it had 10 days of warranty left), provided them the copy of the scanned receipt, and they accepted the warranty repair request, though I did include the original seller's name and phone number amongst the documentation.
