I've never bought a laptop before so I don't really know what's good and what's bad. What's a good and reliable laptop manufacturer and specs? Also, would it be better to get a "junk" laptop, let's say with like 512mb of ram and upgrade it myself to 4gb when I see them on sale or no?

- price range; $500-$1000
- medium screen size
- stylish/sleek (not bulky)
- built-in camera
- reliable**** this one is a must

And also, I heard Windows 7 is coming out soon, when is it going to come out? If soon, should I wait for it and get it with the new OS or should I just stick with Vista?

First of all, never delay a computer purchase to wait for a "New Windows" product. You don't want to be anywhere near a new windows release until 3-6 months after.

HP and Lenovo are good brands. I like HP/Compaq. I have had really good luck with them over the years, and you can get pretty much everything you need for around $500.

This is a good deal at $499: ($30 Off Stackable Coupon code SV2132)

Windows Vista's support will not vanish in atleast 2-3 years. Your best bet is to look at those Lenovo deals that come usually and pick up the system that suits your requirements

I would recommend sticking with Vista.

Windows 7 will be released, and we'll probably see a bunch of problems once it goes live. And previous poster was right when he said that you should wait another 3-6 months until people like us are able to help MS trouble shoot bugs :P

May as well get a notebook with Vista now, and upgrade to 7 at a later date.
