View Full Version : using google for searching the forums
I dont know if this is possible but mr SD said searching takes up 80% of the bandwidth, is there any way to have google sponsor the search? I know it dosent take any of my BW up when Google searches cause they cache everything.
I dont want the big google search bar or anything Im just wondering if google would sponsor it. You know. to save money.

Google indexes news sites continually, but not so for commercial sites like SD. Maybe they have a service for continuous indexing, but I'd expect that they'd charge for it. Also, having their bot crawl around SD would use up some of the resources that are saved.
I dont think the bot would take up much it could crawl in low hours and only crawl 1 day at a time, so it finds say the last 100 days, well tomorrow at 12:01 it searches and indexes today and caches it, so it wouldnt have to crawl that much.

actually not a bad idea. I mean, when we search for stuff, generally it's not for stuff for that day, usually it's just he repost police. Good call dude.

Googlebot does come by a few times a day .On some forums, even small ones, I know I have seen it 3+ times a day before.
