Do you want to do day-trading, or buy/hold investing? Also, what's your budget? A couple hundred, or a couple hundred thousand?

I am curious as well. I have heard some good stuff about Schwab, Etrade and TDAmeritrade.. I am looking to invest a couple thousand and actively trade here and there... Don't know where to start.
I figured there was a thread that compared different site, but couldn't find one.

Zecco Claims that they are the Cheapest..
We challenge you to find a better deal than this.
For stocks and ETFs, you can make 10 free stock trades every month when you maintain a $25,000 balance or execute 25 trades each month. Paid stock trades always cost just $4.50! See details. At $4.50 plus $0.50 per contract with no minimums, our options commission fees are among the lowest in the industry.

i've been using scottrade for the past 2 weeks now. lol, made about 3000 dollars. their service is excellent, always pick up after 2 rings on the phone. anyways, i vouch for scottrade and they have a promotion where you get 3 free trades if you refer someone and the referred friend will also get 3 free trades. here is mine in case you do not have anyone to get one from: JWPX8174 .
i think scottrade lay out is the most simple and user friendly too, though i have not used other ones. a good idea is to put in 2.5k and get a "margin" account, so you can do day tradining, or more trades in a week. otherwise you'll have to wait 3 days to buy/sell stocks...
