Hey everyone,
I'm looking for an Air Conditioner for this Summer. I figured if I look now it may be cheaper then if I look in the Summer. My Walmart here has a window 6500 for $109 and a window 12000 power for $295.
Though I don't mind what I can get. I'm in a small college bedroom so it really would only need a 6500. Anyone know of any sweet deals for a Window or Portable Air Conditioner?
Thanks

Oh man that would be awesome... I wish I had one here, but this darn town has like 25,000 people. So we don't really have any options. What are the specs on that one? I may be able to pick one up in two weeks in my home town if they have it.

If your not againist it , you can try freecycle and see if anyone is giving one away. You'd be supprised by the good stuff on there. HTH

If you are buying one new from Amazon, I would reccomend caution or at least that you open the damn thing up right away.
My husband and I bought a brand new top of the line Window Unit room AC 18,000 BTU's and were happy with the price until we opened the thing up and discovered they had shipped us grey market goods with a european plug. ARGGGH. it's not that easy to just buy a converter for an appliance of that size. We investigated and discovered that a proper converter that would prevent us from blowing up the house would be $200. Needless to say, Amazon is taking the thing back.
We're gonna cruise Home Depot this weekend. We're gonna give away our old AC on Freecycle when we put the new one in. cuz the only thing wrong with it is the power dial is broken and you have to use an Allen Wrench to adjust the power off and on and how high. So yes, people do give away ACs on Freecycle!

If you're in the NY/NJ area, you can have my mine for free...or best offer. It's 8000 btu's I think, works well, nothing fancy. It's been sitting in my garage and recently moved to the basement. I'd be more than happy to bring it back up for you. :)
Free is free, at least until you find a good deal on some fancy one if that's what you'd prefer.
Update to post: I don't have the AC unit anymore.

Shoot I'd be happy to get either of your AC Units. I'll pay shipping and convenience fee too! :)

You can get an AC locally for cheaper than it would cost to ship a used unit. Seriously - AC's are damned heavy. For $180 you can usually score a decent window unit on sale.
If you need free, post on your local freecycle or similar such board. You could also call your local Salvation Army or Goodwill store and see if they have any repaired ones for cheap. here in Los Angeles, the Out of the Closet thrift stores that benefit AIDS charities sometimes have used ACs for cheap.
