A GPS in the $100-$150 range?

I'd go with a Tomtom One-S or Tomtom One XL-S. Both are bare bones, but both include the nice text to speech feature (it announces street names, instead of "turn right in 500 feet). Each Tomtom comes with a free map update within 30 days of opening the package.
The only difference in the two GPSs mentioned is the screen size. The One-S is 3.5, while the XL-S is 4.3. Both are available at walmart.com or Amazon for $130-$150. I would spend the extra $20 on the larger screen, myself.

Stay away from the lower brands, if it's not Garmin/Tomtom/Magellan...stay away. The Navigons are really nice with great features like TTS, Lane Assistance and FREE traffic subscribtion for life. The reviews I have read about Navigon complain about a **15 minute** wait for it to lock onto a satellite. The Tomtoms lock in in under a minute.
