Free Music Downloads
The RIAA doesn't want you to see this page!! Yes, free music (as in "Free Beer"!) in the spirit of the landmark article. "The Internet Debacle" Go ahead, download, listen! We promise not to sue you.*

Below you'll find links to download selected tracks, along with the discography links for the album they come from. Yes, we know that these are not super hi-fidelity MP3s...the idea is that you'll like these so much that you can't help but go to the discography page and buy the album.

If your computer wants to play these automatically when you click the "Download MP3" button, and you actually want to save them, try a "Right click>Save as" maneuver. That always works!

*disclaimer from our legal department. We don't *exactly* promise not to sue you, but you have to do something really bad, unrelated to downloading our music from our web site, to get that sort of attention. Even then, we probably won't even bring up the whole "downloading" thing unless you really irritate us.

She changes the song from time to time and they're always interesting choices.

She also offers free ringtones:

*Intro from "Society's Child" From the album "Best of Janis Ian" (That harpsichord & big "Girl Group" sounding intro that everyone remembers the song for!)
* Outro from "Society's Child" From the album "Best of Janis Ian" (it's that cool organ ending from the song)
* Instrumental from "At Seventeen" - From the album "Best of Janis Ian"
* "Fly Too High" - From the album "Night Rains"(courtesy of Kurt C. Siegel )

For those of you who don't know who she is, she's the singer-songwriter gal who had that monster hit "At Seventeen" in the 1970s and also a big hit called "Society's Child" in the mid 1960s. I've always loved her music. She has had some memorable songs recorded by other people such as "Jesse" by Roberta Flack. She recorded it too but Roberta Flack had a minor hit with it. If you like James Taylor, Carly Simon, Carol King etc. and so on, you'll probably like Janis Ian a lot!

FOR MAC USERS:

best way to download these into Itunes is to position your mouse over the MP3 logo, hold down left click and the control key at the same time which brings up options. Then Select "DOWNLOAD LINKED FILE" and take your finger off the left click. the file will download and should go straight into your Itunes file. if it doesn't, just drag and drop the file into Itunes manually and all will be well.

If that doesn't work, you can also choose option "OPEN WITH iTunes" which should accomplish the same thing but will start the song playing.
