Hello, I hope you are well. I have $300 in OfficeMax Perks rewards (spent a long time getting this much) and have been trying to purchase a laptop for my brother for over a month now. I have had no luck and am hoping that someone could help me out instead.
I'm looking for laptops that are on sale for around $400, so I will only have to pay about $100 or so. For a while earlier this year, Best Buy and other major technology retailers had some decent laptop deals where laptops were around $350 to $450, but I haven't seen such deals around. I'm hoping for a deal similar to that to take place again, but at OfficeMax instead this time.
If anyone notices a good deal, please let me know. I've been keeping my eyes open but am just afraid I may miss something (or that I may have been missing something).
By the way, is there a way to find this week's OfficeMax ad? I spent the last 10 minutes searching and can't even find that, surprisingly.
Thanks,
Victor

Officemax doesn't usually (never?) offer $400 laptops. They always have them priced at $480+. However, if you can get a $30 off coupon, that'll take it down to $450.

Ah, I had no idea. Thanks for the information. I guess $300 off a laptop that goes on sale for $500 is still a pretty good deal. I'll try to be on the lookout for such a deal, but if anyone sees one, please let me know! Thank you.

Hmm, looking at their new ad, they have an Acer for $430. It doesn't have a great processor though.

I saw it about half an hour ago and was excited until I realized it was a netbook. I'm looking for a 15.4" laptop or a laptop with a screen around that size. Thanks for replying though!

Ah, you're correct that it isn't a netbook (I saw a different one, sorry). Unfortunately, you're also correct that the processor isn't very good. I'm trying to decide if I should just get this one or hold out on a better one. Pricewise, this is pretty much ideal, but I'm wondering if I wait a bit longer, whether or not I'll get a better notebook for a similar price.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
By the way, I gave you 4 reputation points for the help.

Can I ask what will be the usage of laptop?
And please just dont buy a laptop if it is cheap. You dont buy laptops everyday so even if you have to pay something out of your pocket it is worth it.

I agree. I'm not trying to get any laptop that's cheap, which is another reason why I started this thread. Thanks for the comment though.
Edit: Sorry if I came across as being sarcastic (I know you were being serious). I forgot to answer your question regarding the usage of the laptop, so I've posted it below.

That looks like a good laptop and I would definitely get it if it weren't refurbished.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll be on the lookout for other stores as well. Do stores usually carry the same laptops? I've seen stories of people trying to pricematch computers and have been rejected because the computers were slightly different, such as different amounts of RAM.
Thanks.

Usage of Laptop:
It'll be for my brother, who watches a lot of videos (streaming and DVDs), does some business sales, and general Web activities. He does some very light gaming, but that doesn't happen too often. He does have a tendency to leave the computer on for many hours on end.
Thanks again, everyone!

As someone mentioned above, pricematching at competitor's price at OfficeMax may be the way to go. However, I'd like to clear something up first. How does rebates factor into the pricematching?
For example, if a laptop is $500 before rebate and $400 after rebate at Staples, what price will OfficeMax look at when I pricematch?
Thank you,
Victor

They will only match the pre-rebate price. :(

Ah, darn. Thanks for answering and letting me know. Getting this deal is going to be tougher than I imagined.
Thanks again,
