So, I'm trying to decide on a credit card, but I can't even get past the "what type of reward do you want?"

What type of reward did you choose and why?

I'm thinking it make sense to get the reward that gives me the highest percentage of return for my money. For example, if for 25,000 points you get a round trip domestic air fare, the LEAST that would be worth I figure is $300, and if you get one point per dollar, 300/25000 is 1.2%. Sometimes tickets would cost up to $800 (800/2500 = 3.2%) To me that seems better than most cash back cards that give you 1% (2% on some purchases)

Amex Blue Cash - I spend about $35K-$40K per year and get back between $600-$700 cash every year.

Amex is changing the terms of Blue Cash starting in June 2009:

We are making changes to the Rebate section of the Agreement in response to the challenging environment and the increasing costs of doing business. These changes, which will become effective June 1, 2009, include:
Any single transaction in excess of $400 at an automobile gasoline station will not qualify as an Everyday Purchase. Those transactions
will earn a lower rebate of 0.5% for the first $6500 of purchases made annually on the Card, and 1.25% after that.
After the first $6500 of purchases made annually on the Card, the rebate is changing from 1.5% to 1.25% for all Eligible Purchases
(except for those at supermarkets, drug stores and automobile gasoline stations, which will continue to earn a 5% rebate as described below).
