I'm looking for a used 2006, 2007 or 2008 BMW 5-series sedan. Just from running some carfax and autocheck reports it seems that almost every vehicle in dealer inventory was purchased at auction. There MUST be some barriers to entry for individuals trying to buy these same cars at auctions but I really have no idea how auto auctions work or how to see what cars are coming up for auction in your area. I've seen the infomercials showing / offering auction info for a fee... are those legit?
Anyone have any experience with auto auctions? Any advice on car buying in general?
Thanks... and I'll continue to research on my own and post updates.

Please personal message me if anyone has any good auctions in Arizona or Las Vegas. I would be willing to pay you to help me out.

search craigslist, sometimes you find people who will sell you the car at cost + $600-$700 from auction. Be sure to check out the car before bidding, auctions generally will tell you if salvage or frame damaged. Manheim is the biggest auction house.

There are Public Auto Auctions and Dealer Auto Auctions..
Always Carfax any used car you are bidding on..
Go early, once you get the Vin #. Just call home and have someone run a Carfax Report..
At the Public Auto Auctions, many people don't even have a copy of Kelly Blue Book with them. So they end up paying too much..
They get caught up in the bidding game.. Amateurs.!!
I have a friend of mine who is a Car Dealer and he gets me in the Dealer Auto Auctions.. There you can find some excellent Deals.. Dealers buy cars at or below wholesale prices..and not a penny more..
They have to make $$..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But With all the Dealerships closing, Many people are finding some Excellent Deals at Autotrader..
Remember, you Haggle over the price..
You may have to drive a 100+ Miles. But it may be worth it.
Or you may get Lucky and find a Deal a couple of miles away..
Search ones with low miles.. Dealers say Rental Cars had a Hard Life..
(Many of them need a Brake Job with only 30-40K miles. Tranmission problems at 60-80K Miles..What does that tell you?) :omg:
They say Leases are usually OK..
Good Luck.!!
