View Full Version : The Lounge should get an "Age" limit

Scullygirl

I think the lounge should be closed off to anyone under the age of 100 posts. or so.
The lounge is just not the place for these kids.
Yes, most people do behave themselves but this way they could look and listen and by the time they jump in,
they will less likely to get themselves in trouble.

under the age of 100 posts?!? behave ourselves!?!?

a low post count does not mean we are kids....and a board like this doesnt get that much traffic...so 100 posts for normal users would take months.....

Your post in the thread in question was in bad taste and a show of ignorance. Especially the "beotch" part. Grow up.

I think imposing an age limit like that would only incourage needless posts, which we already have enough of. Maybe a special VIP lounge by invite or referral only.

How about an IQ limit? that would help us get rid of certain people.

this board doesn't get much traffic?? that's an odd thing to say....

im talking about posting....i know enough, so dont insult my intelligence....im admin on three other message boards.....

but more so then posting, posting from a variety of users....there are mostly power users, and the ones that pop in once in a blue moon.....

private areas of message boards ive always frowned upon.....on any board ive ever managed/subscribed to...unless it was a 2 tier board meaning you had non-paying members, and premium members...then it serves it purpose, but to say someone needs to have x amount of posts is along the same closeminded train of thought that you Benno123 come from with your "what does he know" post....

btw- i know enough to have a degree in IST from PSU...

The only thing I was referring to, was Ambah's response about what you said about the amount of traffic on this site. from your number of posts, and you registering date I concluded that you are new on this forum so I was wondering how you can have an opinion about the amount of posts there are on this site.

People who are really smart don't have to brag about how much they know!

ive been using the site for over month...but finally got around to registering, as since at my job, i am never in the office for periods of time, or at the same workstation.....and when i come home, i just putz around, and never bothered getting around to it....

the only time people have to prove they know something is when someone challenges that which they already know... :)

 Mmmm, no. Repost are generally regarded as a new thread that mirrors an existing thread
and since you didn't start an original thread on this topic;
this thread isn't mirroring any thread, therefore it can't be a repost of your post.

BUT......... based on your link....I like the way you think.:worship:

I'd like the floor to go to the mods. I know they read everything, but no response yet.
Maybe the 100 post was a little extreme,
but I think even the 25 posts BigBubba originally suggested would be helpful or 50 :evil laugh:
I think it may have helped a couple of the new members out, but that is the optimist in me.........

hmmm... I won't get into a political debate about a slickdeals forum, but just realize some ppl are immature, some are rude, some just want to push ppl's buttons, and some are just here to relax. As a good rule of thumb, if someone acts like a jerk I just ignore them, if their posts go unresponded to their posts will go to the bottom of the list or at least won't be further enticed. There are some ppl I just don't respond to anymore, they might as well had said nothing or could wish me dead, it is all the same to me, I ignore it.

Immaturity is frustrating and sometimes amusing, but if you get offended the wonderful thing about a forum is that you may excuse yourself. Some conversations here aren't for me, so you won't find my postings there.

Just some friendly advice, hope it helps.

Well this isn't about just me, even mods have been takin a back by this.
I think it would lessen the possibilities of it happening and maybe help establish a more mature poster by than, in theory...:bulb:

Yes, I know it isn't just you, I too have been offended, and thought about clicking the "x box" on slickdeals never to return...but like I said I just retrench and let them go when they resort to immature/inappropriate and confrontational communication.

I don't think that there is an exact answer to this one, sorry.

i think if you need a post limit, it has to be pretty high. if not there will be pretty good chance there would be some board spammers just posting thanks in every slickdeal and freebie. if it was 100 i think they would get bored. if it was only 25 that would be nothing,

This would only work if you could figure out a way too aggrevate the newbie - like having some sort of error message come up whenever we...err..I mean "they" try to post something stupid. HEY.....Thats it! I'm gonna invent a "stupid filter" for forums. THANKS SLICKDEALS!! You've come thru for me again!

...meh
I don't think this is a good idea.. if there's an idiot like foolishmonkey, it is deleted... the 1st post could be worth while in the lounge.. even if it's their first on slickdeals..
