I always ponder why there isnt a classified section so we can have an open market between eachother.

Im sure all of us have a bunch of things we'd like to sale or trade :)

What do you think?

the main reason is that people will end up buying 50 of the slickdeals and then try to resell them for a profit to other slickdealers who missed out...

Fraud. Who wants to vouch for members even when 90% are decent people.

You don't see the people we block/ban on a regular basis and giving them a section to setup shop would not help.

Not to mention the fight that will break out if the person felt they were swindled

Imagine the amount of self promotion spam we would get

Does Ebay actually exert much say over users? I thought most fraud was tracked via PayPal and reputation points. If you don't receive your item or if you don't like it, there really isn't much you can do if the seller isn't willing to cooperate. A better comparison related to an SD Classified section would be CraigsList, which only barely cares what people post and certainly doesn't vouch for people.

Classifieds or auctions could be a massive market for SD (think public company, etc.), but clearly wasn't the reason behind starting SlickDeals and would probably ruin other sections of the site. So the owners have to decide between selling out or keepin' it real.

Finally, I haven't been all that impressed with the moderators' non-uniform way to regulate forum traffic. Some mods are okay, others...not so much. But really, the lame concerns for forums (who is being mean to whom; is this thread in the right place--which is why I got points) does not appear to have much to do with buying or selling, or anything other than making the regular posters feel nice about themselves. In reality, little appears regulated. If one of the mods disagrees, I would welcome the additional information.

Some reposts are good because new users might have something to add to discussion and it seems like going back to an old thread is a particularly large waste of time. It seems to me that only super internet people troll through the old threads (peeps in the 3000+ post range.)

I thought there was an "official movie review" thread??? It's in the sticky.

They have to do with normal order and the ability to find relevant information in lieu of total anarchy and malaise.

We have a few rules around here but we're not going to watch every members steps all the time. Most rules get enforced when other members bring the offending post or thread to our attention.

This site would not be the same if we had an "anything goes" attitude. See Stuffz for further explanation. ;)

No, I mean a movie review section ..... each movie that hit the theaters would then become a thread (eg. Transporter 2 thread) in the movie review section. That way fellow stickdealers could read/post comments about a particular movie. Anyway, that's my 2¢.

Why can't people use the search feature on slickdeals?

Is interesting, in any case. How do people become mods? Is this your job? Do you all live in an area and work at an office? If not, how do you have time/patience to look at what garbage people are posting on here all day???

mmathis, I think you are right about the movie thread to a large degree; but I like movies. I can see many movies (esp independent stuff) might not get many reviewers. I made a post about the ethical considerations of the Grizzly Man movie in the lounge and really only me and some dude named vec had any discussion on it. That was really surprising because I had recently irritated many people on a previous thread...and they were consequently following me around to try to repay my comments....even that wasn't enough to elicit more discussion. So I could envision a lot of empty threads being created as a result. It's amazing how many movies come out each year versus how few are profitable blockbusters. It's interesting to observe how few of those blockbusters have real staying power, too. I, Robot comes to mind. What a waste...

Anyway, at the end of the day, SD must devote it's main resources to discussion based on finding better deals rather than politics or movies (other than deals on politics or movies...ha ha). You can make an alternative case that many movie websites already exist that have plenty of discussion pages on them, already. IMO, the SD moderators' time is wasted policing these forums. They would be better off looking for more deals!!! Or policing the deals and tech sections. You don't see posts by mods in the deal sections very often, despite many deals simply being sales on items rather than super slick (which,I have to admit, I like the sales info, too...but the site instructions say the deals shouldn't only be sales...???) or simply not being good deals. Yet in the xtra forum junk threads, it's chock full of moderators?!

I know, I know. But try posting in a year old thread and see if anyone responds? You'll have to wait 2 weeks and only then it will be one of the usual suspects: moderators or people who live for SD posting.

I heard that mods are getting paid between 200k and 300k depends on experience, also this is the SD headquarters

If you want to know how to become mod. Do a search on it. Plenty of post on that. All mods were regular user before they were hand pick by Mr. Slickdeals to help him out.

As for your warning point. You got it because you posted Hillary podium topic TWICE in the lounge. I informed you it was podium topic and mod moved the thread to the podium but you chose to create the topic again in the lounge.

It's not mods responsibility to post deals. This site is for public to post deals to share with others. Mod is only here to clean up and enforce the rules, other than that they are no different from us.

I think its worth a try. what is not good for someone is better for another. but you just gotta hope someone is honest with the product.

For those who think classified ads would be a good idea, consider the flipside:

If eBay had a "hot deals" section" where people would share deal tips, would you trust ANYTHING posted there?

Would people be motivated to contribute their knowledge of hot deals?

IMHO, there's no way I'd look to eBay for deal info, and that's the same reason why selling items here on Slickdeals is a bad idea.

IMO the biggest detraction is people buying way more than they need of a slickdeal, and just turning around and selling here for 20 bucks more. i detest people who do that anyway, i really don't want to make it easier for them to do it.

like others have said, there are many other places where its already established, make use of it.

Not needed, who is going to end up making sure what is posted is legit and how would you screen out fraudulent sellers. Plus you will end up getting people who list a whole garage sales worth of stuff and then state contact me via email if interested, they never come back and update the list or answer the questions people have posted.

Just not worth the hassle IMHO!

Yeah, the site would have a lot of unmanageable posts that would take up space over time...
