I'm looking to get a projector for the living room.
Daytime viewing would be desirable with this projector.

I can spend up to $2K.

Here are the things that are more important to me is the native resolution (1080P) and component and HDMI inputs. DVI would also do as well (as long as i can hook up the HTPC and run 1080P resolution).

After reading Projector Central's reviews on the top 5 1080p projectors

http://www.projectorcentral.com/1080p_home_theater_projectors.htm

Mitsubishi HC5500 and BenQ W5000 look really nice.

I searched the forums for the Mitsubishi HC5500 and it seems amazon had it for a lot cheaper before.

The $300 rebate for the Mitsubishi HC5500 + free lamp replacement is great.

Can anybody help me find the Mitsubishi HC5500 at a good price or any other 1080P projectors that you can recommend that fit my budget?

If you want to place the projector literally anywhere, us appliance has the epson 1080p for 1795 and you can use the epson rebate for 300 dollars back plus a free lamp, 350 dollar value. It was a little cheaper at another online place a few weeks ago.

The price of HC5500 on amazon varies everyday, up or down. But I'm not sure if it is good for daytime projection if you don't have a dark room...

If you spend a bit more on a higher end projector, and have the right screen for the room, you might have better results, but really if the room is too bright, you aren't going to be happy with any projector no matter the cost. The question is how dark does the room need to be where you are happy with the picture, unless you plan mainly night viewing. Blackout shades are often a good solution if the room only has a few windows.

I'm going to keep an eye on the HC5500 on amazon if it fluxuates daily.
i don't see how its 1800 one day and then as others have posted it goes down to 1400.

$1400 would be a steal.

as for the lighting, im in a spot in my condo where i don't get a lot of sunlight during the day. i have a coutyard i face (it's in the center of the building). i plan to put up some nice shades that can give me full privacy and try to eliminate any extra light.

It doesn't go down to that low, at least not yet. I think the lowest was like 1675, before the rebate, which is 300 plus a free bulb.

Yes you are right. I missed the before rebate difference. Still after rebate; as long as you get it; doesn't make you feel bad LOL

the rebate is like the justification to buy it LOL

Dbuys.com currently has the HC5500 for $1699, free shipping. Can you still use the rebate with these guys? The rebate is kind of vague about saying can't be purchased from discount websites. Im not sure what qualifies as a discount website and would hate to see my rebate become invalid. Any ideas on this?

The thing with projectors is they will always look different depending on the room, placement, type of screen etc.

i can definately imagine that as being true, but some demo is better than no demo IMO

the type of screen also matters.
soo many variables that can change how it looks.
