my TV has bit the dust, and I have had conns warranty come and try to fix it 7 times. On the 8th time, they told me I'll just get a new TV. This was awesome cause I was told that on the last day of my warranty. (woot!)

So now I have $1399 for a tv from Conn's. I'm getting it this weekend

What TV should I get? I dont know much about TV's...I just know I like to watch stuff on them.

I want a big one too. Don't mind giving up a few hundred for a nicer one.

50" or bigger.

My mom says go for the LN46A650 46" HDTV

Thanks!:woot:

What type of TV did you have?
Were you happy with it, until it broke? 7 Times!!
What are you going to do with it, what types of watching, are you going to be gaming on it, and are you going to be using it as a computer monitor?
What is the room like that your TV goes in?

Those questions will help to determine the best one for your situation.
The short answer, site unseen, I kinda like the S1 too.

I had a samsung.some 47 inch lpj or ljp...whatever

It was good for the time, I was still happy. Except when broke.

I will gaming, watching kids shows and watching sports

I've only done the computer monito thing a few times. They really need to cheap the computer monitor wireless cables.

This is going in the living room.

From the description of your TV I'm guessing that you had a Samsung 47" LCD.
LCD's are good in bright/glaring rooms, good for hardcore gaming and daily computer monitor use. Most are not so good at displaying fast moving images (sports/action) they are not at their best in a really dark room either. Plasmas are good in dark rooms, and good with fast motion (sports), not as good with glare. Plasmas also tend to give you a better picture for the dollar than LCD. They (plasmas) also can, in some situations, temporarily retain images on the screen, if a static picture is left on them for long periods of time. Some brands are better than others in this regard. If you do some gaming, LCD or plasma would be fine. If you are playing games for 5-6 hours a day, an LCD is probably best for you. Do you want another LCD, or are you open to either LCD or Plasma?

The two below are my choices as the best deals on the Conn's site, while still decent performers.

The Panasonic TC-P50S1 and the LG 50PQ30 below are both Plasmas.
The Samsung LN46B550 is LCD.

BTW the LN46A650 is a nice set, but it is a 2008 model. A=2008, B=2009 for Samsung.

I would compare the three, see if one of them speaks to you. If it's one of the cheaper ones, you could always get some extra goodies like a HT system, Bluray, or Gaming system. BTW do you get a 30 day exchange with your replacement, in case you don't like what you buy?

Good Luck With The Decision

Buy the 50 inch LG 720p plasma for 800 and spend the rest on a PS3 and some blu-rays.

Trust me when I say that the LG will look better than any Samsung under $1400. I've had a 42PC3D for about two years and I still have not found a TV at a price range I believe it calls to be replaced.

The LGs are pretty much as well made as any of the Panasonics, they have an excellent in box warranty [mine was 2 years] and their image quality rivals any screen hundreds of dollars more expensive.

Today's plasmas [especially those by the big brands, like Panasonic, PIoneer, LG, even Samsung] have relatively no issues with burn in

and their CONTRAST and COLOR are still top of the line [as good as it gets, it's not about brand, it's about display type]

So you could spend $1400 on a LCD and get the same old awful contrast and sluggish response times..

or you could spend $800 on a massively sized screen with the blackest blacks, lightning fast can't even count it response time, and beautiful color quality...

Take the LG home, calibrate it, pop a blu ray in, sit 6-8 feet away, be amazed.
