recently I've been seeing intentional reposts and/or non-intentional reposts.
I have a question on these two posts....essentially the same post but different dates and different forum. At what point do you let it slide and let the later poster keep the repost since it is a HOT deal?

Speaking for myself and just my opinion here but;
The first thread you noted was first posted in Freebies and someone noticed it there and thought it was a Hot Deal. So, they intentionally reposted it there.
( It was ultimately merged.)
I did this last week when the AMEX card was listed in Hot Deals but not freebies. Others have done this before like the Microsoft Student CD. If someone hadnt posted the "heads-up" in the freebie forum, I wouldnt have been able to participate. As for many others, Im sure.
A lot of members and/or visitors dont always visit each single forums. Some just visit Freebies or Hot Deals. I usually hit the Freebies, coupons anslickdealsections when Im in a rush to just see whats out there. On days when I have more time, I search the whole site ( except the podium... to much tempation and not enough time for me... ;) )
So, by putting an intentional repost in a different forum allows everyone to get in on the deal, IF they qualify!

Cross-posting doubles the number of threads, which means more clutter, not less.
That spreads out and waters down the dialogue so that fewer people read the comments. A poster might have a great post about a product or a price, but if the deal is cross-posted, people reading the other thread(s) won't see the comment.
If somethings are cross-posted and others aren't, then people STILL will miss out on deals. Not only will they still have to look in two places, they'll have to wade through the duplicates to get to the unique threads. People already complain about having too many extraneous threads. Segregating them into categories like Freebies anslickdealseems to be a reasonable approach to minimizing the number of threads.

I agree with both jen_wv and xnarg on several points. my whole thing is when does the intentional reposts become acceptable?
i believe it's acceptable when a repost is absolutely warranted (i.e. an original freebie that is so HOT that it needs to be in hot deals - or vice versa). I'm all for it if it's an AWESOME deal. However...
I also agree with xnarg about the clutter and people not complying with the "search first" and/or being lazy in not searching thereby being counterproductive for everyone. I get irked when SDers don't follow the rules and starts posting coupons in the hot deals section. C'mon...coupons!!!!????
I personally scan every thread title in every forum except tech & podium (first page only) whenever I get on SD.

I should have been more clear...

Thats what I meant.. otherwise, it is just another repost.
