Looks like they recently released an updated version for the Homebrew/WiiBrew channel for the Wii. Now working on the recently released firmware update that crippled the previous installer for it. Completely free and now even easier to install.

http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Setting_up_your_Wii_for_Homebrew

Let's you download homebrewed games(games made by home users and uploaded to the internet). Some nice quality games are there. Also it lets you downloaded new kinds of apps for the Wii, media extenders, DVD players, etc.

I've got the homebrew channel and love it. The OP probably wants to keep this deal above ground, but you can also use the homebrew channel to play burned wii games, virtual console, and wiiware for free. Just FYI. Remember, that it is legal only if you own the games that you play backups of.

Wow the Bannerbomb looks super easy, not that Twilight Hack was hard once you got it. But now you arent required to buy Zelda to softmod. very cool. useless for me as mine is already done but great for noobs, i would try to explain the Zelda hack to people and iot was too complicated for people who aint too savvy

Yes, please try to keep the talk above the line so it won't get deleted. I thought it was a sweet download and hack for the Wii.

A couple of games I'd recommend so far are -

Super Mario War Wii

Harmonium

Christmas-Type Adventure Time

OpenTyrianWii

And something with the name Balloon in the title...

Hope you guys enjoy!

And yes, the Bannerbomb hack is super easy... I was a bit concerned at doing it and then it was just easy as pie.

Does Nintendo Wii ban people who download this homebrew stuff? I like to play Mario Kart Wii online and these applications may not be worth the risk involved.

FYI - homebrew channel rocks. I set it up over the holiday weekend and am lovin' it. It took me all of *maybe* 10 minutes and now I can use my Wii as a media center to watch videos on my TV. MplayerCE can play from a windows (SMB) network share so I don't even need to cart the files to the Wii to play them - it streams them perfectly over the wireless card!

I highly recommend going homebrew!

I'm also curious about this: Can you be banned for this?

Its just a rumor/myth.

The banning is happening because people are cheating in online multiplayer games like mario kart.

The only way to cheat online is with a program called ocarina which lets you use various cheats(like infinite items in mario kart).

The only way to get ocarina is if you have the homebrew channel.

So people think that having the homebrew channel means they are gonna get banned but its not the case.

Just don't cheat online and you will be fine.

Ive played mario kart online since it came out and ive had homebrew channel since then as well.Nothings ever happened to me.I even use ocarina as well but i dont use it with online play only offline play.

And where do you download apps for the homebrew channel?

And where do you download apps for the homebrew channel?

Once you install(or as you're installing the homebrew channel), install the homebrew browser - http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_Browser

And you can get games straight from the browser. Download them onto your SD card and you're good to go.

If anyone else has any other places on where to get homebrew games for the Wii, feel free to chime in.

Is it more than just a browser? Can someone please explain a little more. I am new to the whole WII thing. Sorry for being ignorant.

I'm not sure if this resource has been mentioned, but I recently used http://wiiguide.co.cc/ to homebrew-ify my wii. Hit their Download AIO Kit link, grab the zip. Follow the directions and your done in like 20 minutes. It's so easy that I was rofling.

I've been loving the mplayer media player on the homebrew channel. You can run tons of video formats right off thumb drives. I recently watched all of HBO's Eastbound and Down through my Wii. Much easier than trying to stream xvid to your xbox 360 =)

nope. You need an SD / USB adapter to connect an SD card to your computer.
They're cheap!

My printer even has an SD slot. I use Micro and Mini SD for my cell phones and ditital camera. If you do too, you can use one of those devices.

Now, I've had a soft-modded Wii for over a year. Keep in mind, the software we're talking about here is developed by independant programmers in their free time. They occasionally collaborate, but on a whole, the stuff you're downloading has no guarantee to work. Also, two or three different teams of programmers will be working on similar projects at the same time, so one program may be better than another, though they both do just about the same thing.
For example, there are a few different versions of the MPlayer. The CE version appears to be the best because it has DVD playback like the Mplayer dvdlib edition, and incorporates the additional functions built into Geexbox.

Waninkoko has a lot of stuff out there, and a lot of it is great. A ton of programs are based on his work. Most of his stuff is based on the work done by Team Tweazers. They're the guys who first discovered how to access the Wii. They're responsible for the original Zelda exploit, and they're the creators of the Homebrew Channel. I trust their stuff. And although it doesn't do much right now, BootMii has a ton of potential.

Thank y'all so much for putting up all this information! I'm wondering if someone would mind my asking a few questions though. For starters - how dangerous is it as far as bricking your Wii? And when we got Mario Kart we had to update to play it - is this likely to happen again when we get say Wii Sports Resort? If anyone doesn't mind a gazillion questions from clueless old lady would y'all PM me and let me know? Thanks! :)
