Hey I am looking for an external hard drive for my friends birthday. He is working with only 80gigs of hard drive space now ( I know!) but I would like to get him something like a 500 or 250 for additional storage, as he is running out of space on his laptop. I don't have a lot but this kid really deserves a good gift. What do you recommend :)

Nice gesture ... I would just search the forums for deals. I haven't seen any stunning deals for external HDs in the past few days. I like the Buffalo HD because it's bus-powered so it doesn't need a power cord, plus a built-in USB cable. I don't have any personal experience with Buffalo products, but I think it has a Western Digital drive inside the case (which is a brand that I like).

IMO the best solution would be to upgrade the laptop HD ... more hassle but worth it in the long run.

That Buffalo 320 GB is showing up as 79.99 in the link. Has the deal expired?
