I've read in forums that Costco sometimes has it for $40 and Wal-Mart has it for under $60, but all the threads are several months old. Has anyone seen these at Wal-Mart, Costco, or anywhere else recently for under $60?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I saw that, but I'd probably spend the extra $15 or so to get a new one at Best Buy before buying a refurbished one.

The one at Bestbuy is 5990 not 5992 though

Thanks for pointing that out. I just searched Best Buy's site for "DVP5992," and didn't notice it was actually the DVP5990 that came up. People in the forums I've looked at don't seem to know for sure if there are any substantive differences between the two models. I guess I'll have to do a little more homework before buying one. I like the DVP5992 because it is cheap, has a USB 2.0 port (a must have for me), and can play a variety of video files.

The only difference is one is silver and one is black and outside casing is different.

I guess I'll just go for the DVP5990 for $66 at Best Buy. Thanks for your help, everyone.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately Dell is out of stock, and I kind of doubt they will get more in. I almost bought one at Best Buy last night, but I decided to wait until Sunday to see if they put them on sale.

Hm, my best Buy didn't have any in stock. I'm also looking for a Divx on sale.

Buy.com is selling them on eBay (http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=1441009&u2=http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Philips-DVP5990-DVD-Player-DVP5990-F7_W0QQitemZ400057510082QQ) [ebay.com (http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=1441009&u2=http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Philips-DVP5990-DVD-Player-DVP5990-F7_W0QQitemZ400057510082QQ)] for $60 with free shipping. This is a bit better than Best Buy's price especially if you live in a state where Buy.com doesn't charge sales tax.

You may want to research a bit more about the differences, it seems that they both have USB compatibiliy, but if you want to watch movies from USB you can only do it with the 5992, the 5990 only plays pics and music from USB devices.

I just bought a DVP5990, and it definitely plays video from the USB port.

Dell is selling DVP5990 TODAY for $50 on sale. Hope you guys didnt alreasdy make your purchases.
Ive been looking at this for a while and went to Philips site. It had a link to Buy and offered links to J&R, Dell, Walmart and Best Buy. Wally had it for $65, BBuy for $66. J&R had a REFURBED model for $50, while DELL had a new one for $50 after a $10 instant discount.

Hope this helps
