I have to buy a laptop because my computer room is now turning into a nursery :woot:

I basically need to surf the net, pay bills, download pics and videos from my camera and camcorder and use Microsoft office. I am not a gamer.

I would like to stay in the $500-$700 range. Can anyone recommend a brand and suggest some of the specifics I may want to get?
Thanks a bunch!

HP. Select model that comes with HDMI and at least Core Dual 2 or faster. Check out Office Depot!

just upgrade the processor to core 2 duo

i love my netbook but i must acknowledge that my desktop is connected to a 50 inch screen.... so i have never considered a 10' screen an issue

with that said: GO eee pc 1000

maybe not what you are looking for, or maybe it is and you didn't even know it?

it is more than enough machine for the tasks you described, especially if you get an external HD to store those movies on.

Get a Lenovo Thinkpad. They last until the apocalypse and also have the upsides of being fast and having great support. Get the T400 if you want a 14.1 inch computer, a T500 if you want a 15.4 inch computer, W500 for graphics and games (15.4"), or finally a W700 if you want a huge screen. They even have a W700ds that has TWO screens: a 17.4 inch and a 10.2 inch screen, where the little screen slides out the side. Expensive, but unique.
