Hey I was new to stock trading and I was wondering if anyone knew any good sites currently to trade on? Is there any sites offering programs where they give you bonuses when you sign up?

I hear a lot of good things about Scottrade. No freebies but $7 trades and free rt quotes.

paper trade while you learn
I use bankofamerica trading part of their site, $5 trades. I have my checking account with them and this makes cash ransfers into my brokerage account faster.

Scottrade all the way. I opened a account back in March and I've loved every minute of it. The only thing they do is charge to send you "paper" copies of your transactions and a monthly statement. You can just go to your preferences and change it to be delivered to your email. But overall customer service is great and I have yet to have any problems!

Long-term investing is the right mindset. Sharebuilder definitely helps with that goal. I've been using them for months now and actively purchasing stocks for long term goals. <3 Dividend Reinvesting.

If you are going to day trade then you need a program with direct access with level two quote. I use Schwab Street Smart Pro and I pay $9 per trade, Their trading software is great. I have been using this software for about 10 years. Schwab purchased this platform from a company called Cybertrader.
As someone already mentioned above, paper trade before you start trading live.
Good luck.

I generally believe the EMH, though maybe not 100% true, the fact remains generally the overhwhelming majority of traders lose money. Even people who dont believe in the EMH like Shiller looked at the records of actual traders not their bragging claims about how they made money and I recall he said the record was pretty dismal.
However you always read about some loophole where some savvy types can actually get a real possibly sleazy leg up like front running etc.
I saw this recently in the NY TIMES --- another way of getting an advantage.

Use scottrade.com. Thats what I use. They dont have any hidden fees and its really easy to sign up. Use this code: OHHB2432 when signing up for an account on scottrade.com during the section when you are asked how you learned of scottrade. When you use this code, you and I both get 3 FREE TRADES!!!
