If you want an embroidery machine, be sure to get one with a USB port. That way, your wife will not have to pay through the nose for embroidery designs, and she will have much more flexibility and creativity.

Also -- if your wife already owns a sewing machine with a lot of feet and accessories, you may want to ask her if she wants to stick with that brand. I own a Kenmore sewing machine and a Kenmore serger, so I am looking at Janome embroidery machines.

I highly recommend that you go to the sewing pattern review forums and post your question on the embroidery forum there.

My wife is unexperience when it comes to a sewing machine. Is it a good idea to spend a great amount of money on a sewing machine that features emroidery designs for somebody who never touched a sewing machine before? I was thinking of buying her something more basic and cheaper. My wife is really into disigning cloths as a new hobby, so I would like to get her something that can help her do so.
