One huge annoyance I have with the Slickdeals Forums is having the max number of threads I can see limited to 40. Ideally, I would love to have 100 posts out on one page. Many mornings, I would get through the first page of posts (and it would take me a little time), and by the time I hit page two, 1/2 the posts from the first page would appear on the second page.

then i'd have to go back to the 1st page to see what I missed, only to then be completely lost my place...leading me to go to another deal forum that lists out a lot more on one page.

anyway to get the "Number of Posts to Show Per Page" limit increased to 100?

Thanks!

The option you are looking for is "Number of Threads to Show Per Page" (in the User CP), and the max is 80.

He is talking about the number of posts on 1 page. Max is only 40

Number of Posts to Show Per Page. Use this option to set the number of posts to show in a thread before splitting the display into multiple pages.

Number of Posts to Show Per Page: 40

:shake: I think he's talking about the number of threads showing on a forum page, not number of posts within a thread: Many mornings, I would get through the first page of posts (and it would take me a little time), and by the time I hit page two, 1/2 the posts from the first page would appear on the second page.

then i'd have to go back to the 1st page to see what I missed... The only time that posts shift from the first page to the second page as the OP mentions above is when a new thread is added to a forum or a reply bumps a thread to the first page of a forum. But that doesn't happen within a thread because new posts are added to the end of the thread, not the beginning. Of course, I could be wrong :dontknow:

However if it helps you or the OP, when you're viewing a thread, if you want to see more than 40 posts at once you could try using the 'show printable verison' link under Thread Tools, which will give you up to 200 posts per page at once. Unfortunately the results aren't as pretty as a normal view and the smiley graphics go away, but at least you can view more posts per page that way. (I do think a more posts per page in threads option would be nice for those that would use it, though :))

OP, if it's just the part about some of the posts you've already read shifting to the second page by the time you get to it that's really bugging you, you could try sorting your forum view to show by the 'thread started' date. That way the only time the threads would move is if there's a brand new thread and not just replies to it bumping it. You can do this either by clicking on 'Thread Started' link at the top of that column, or you can set it to do that automatically for all forums in your User CP > Edit Options > Thread Display Options > Thread Sorting Options and choose "thread start date" in the dropdown.

This is primarily performance-driven setting. The more posts per page is allowed, the higher database load on each thread view, and 40 keeps it balanced nicely, providing everyone with acceptable page loading speeds.

If we get some super deals on super fast servers, this may increase, but for now 40 is what it's capped on.
