I tried giving bean a rep point, but nothing changed. I clicked on his green button again and it says I can't give rep for the same post twice.
I tried this on many other ppl, same thing. what's going on here? Did i do something wrong and got my rep power taken away? :bye:
I got a blank rep point from you..I think..

I gave a rep pt yesterday and the users's total did not change either, even after refreshing. Maybe it was a temporary glitch. It seems to be working now.
[edit: It seems to take a few seconds for points to be added.]

Sometimes it's instant. Other times, it's not.

The system also keeps track of who you give rep points too...so you can't give rep points to the same person day after day. I am not totally sure how many days you have to let pass until you can give the same person another rep point. The system also limits how many rep points you give out (per day), you just can't go on a rep giving spree.

but either way, he should get the messages saying you have given out too much rep/you need to spread the love.
i think it'd be more of a its not instant thing like kel mentioned.

You guys are killing the servers so updates to minor things are no longer instant.

You guys are killing the servers so updates to minor things are no longer instant. What is impacting the servers; searches, or page generation, or ???

ummm sorry... I'm sure my inane posts are one of the biggest culprits. I'll seriously work on posting less. I didn't think the servers were getting overloaded. Knowing they are, puts things in a different perspective.

It's not anyone's fault really, just growing pains. Continue posting as usual.
To get the site running more smoothly, we retired the hamsters <img src="http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:xP4iJrL_N-YJ:photos1.blogger.com/img/1/1459/640/hamster%2520-%2520golf.jpg" /> running the servers and brought in pigs <img src="http://forums.slickdeals.net/image.php?u=15924&dateline=1115765085" /> as replacements so things are running much better.

Did you click "Refresh" in your browser after you gave the point?
I got a couple from ya couple days ago, thanks.

Does that mean I should turn off my FF extension that refreshes SD every five seconds?

Some law or other says if a mention of Nazis is made, the thread ends. I am calculating the time it takes for the SD servers to decide whether Xnarg's sig is an "end thread" call for the SD servers.
2.73567 seconds, it appears each time Xnarg posts, the servers are halted that long to decide, after a search and compare to all SD posts, whether they should proceed with the thread.
Shoulda knowed Xnarg woulda been behind this from the start. :prop: he's ALWAYS to blame. :D
