What's the best deal out there? Please note: good phone reception is part of the equation for me.

Is it AT&T, T-Mobile, Tracfone or something else?

Gracias

I'd recommend a Verizon MVNO. These companies use the entire Verizon network, minus roaming partners, which has pretty damn good coverage.

Straight Talk is a new entrance to the game (they're an offshoot of Tracfone, actually) with two pay-per-month plans. www.straighttalk.com (I'm currently on their unlimited text&talk for 45/month and LOVE it.)

Page Plus is an old standby, with a greater variety of plans, including per-minute setups.

Rumors have it that in the first week of August they'll be coming out with new plans, including an unlimited text/talk plan of their own for $39.95/month.

The main benefit of Page Plus is that you are able to activate ANY Verizon phone, and aren't limited to the handsets they sell (or the three old, overpriced phones that Straight Talk offers) You can sometimes find discounted refill cards for Page Plus, also.

Tracfone's coverage is hard to beat if you're looking for something more baseline (and you happen to be in some odd neck of the woods Verizon doesn't cover), although their phones and 'plans' are significantly more limited. They have agreements with Verizon, ATT, US Cellular, T-Mobile, etc.

Verizon has a pre-paid plan too, for $1/day on any day you use for unlimited minutes.

Link?

Their website lists that plan as being $3.99 a day  ( http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=prepayItem&action=viewPrepayOverview )

I was thinking of the Core plan, on the page you linked to, but forgot that the unlimited minutes at that rate are only for VZW calling.

Would anyone recommend the T-Mobile pre-paid plan where if you buy a $100 card, your minutes are good for a whole year?

Also, do they charge an activation fee?

thanks

The best deal is

Under 300 minutes/text a month - T mobile to go - you have to put in $100 of time up front, but it is a good deal. I use this

Up to 1000 minutes and 1000 text a month - Straight talk $30 plan - This uses verizon's network - My wife uses this. As long you would use under 1500 minutes or Text a month this is still cheaper then the unlimited. After a 1000 is used you just owe $30 for the next 1000 or 30 days.

Unlimited $45 - Multiple options with straighttalk being one of them.
