sprint SERO upgrade phone reccomendations; tethering

Hello,

I'm eligible for an upgrade to my SERO plan. I would like to tether the phone for free and I don't really want a windows mobile phone unless their is no choice. I would like to spend as little as possible too. Can anybody recommend a phone for me? It probably doesn't matter however my platform of choice is ubuntu linux.

tethering to ubuntu 9.04 was a lot easier then to windows xp for me :) , didnt require any software.

I know you don't like Windows Mobile, but you can get a Touch Pro or Touch Pro 2 and then upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5. Maybe you'll like it more than Windows Mobile 6.1.
