Try http://www.shopfordsl.com (http://www.shopfordsl.com/) to see what specials, plans are available in your area. I used it to get my Comcast internet.

do you have a phone line with AT&T?
if not then Naked DSL (without phone line) plans start at $19.99 per month
with phone you can call them and ask them to give you discount for 50% off

I SO wish that AT&T DSL was available in my neighborhood. I can't even get Verizon DSL, my only choice for years was Comcast, but Fios is available now. But I'd jump on a slow DSL service contract for $20.

interesting. I looked up what services are available for my address, and it gave me 4 service providers - NOT including my current one

This site looks utterly bogus. It gives me choices of three categories:
Mobile Internet
Satellite Internet
Dialup Internet
You know the category that your ShopForDSL is missing?
DSL!
And cable. And anything remotely useful to "Find High Speed Internet, Video, & Digital Phone Service Providers in Your Area!"
It missed all the DSL and cable providers in the area. Looks like your site is is a con job. djkk, promoting only the least useful stuff. What area are you in where it actually gave a decent result?

If you haven't gotten internet service for 12 months, you can get ATT for 10 bucks a month.

It's a total con. I'm in the Bay Area (home of the Intarwebz???) where even an outhouse can get DSL. That "shopfordsl.com" site gave me no choice for any known large DSL providers (AT&T most notably), not even cable (Comcast).
Utterly ridiculous.

FYI if you get Fios and want to go back to say regular copper wire phone service, Verizon wont let you. They don't allow you to return to old, reliable, copper wire. ... not even with a penalty fine.
Verizon wont allow your residence to go back to copper wire. I'm not sure if it applies to apartments but it DOES apply to houses perhaps even 2 and 3 family houses.
I don't know if you were to move and someone else moved into your old house/apartment if they'd allow the new resident to choose between Fios or copper wire but they wont allow YOU to go back to the way of copper once you've "upgraded" to Fios.
I don't know if they disconnect the wire from the telephone pole to your house (for standalone houses) but they trap you. Your stuck with Fios. The only way to escape is to cancel all Fios service and get wireless phone service and cable Internet.

If you want a decent website to get a general idea of the options available to you, check out www.whitefence.com
They helped me find out a decent deal in my area.
One thing though, you're likely going to have to pay about $15 a month minimum for the slowest crapline they have.
