I am looking to compare the Linksys dual band Linksys WRT610N vs the D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router DIR-825. I am limited on my knowledge of routers. Which one is better? Price is not important.

Will there be a better router soon? or is there a better router out there now? Thanks. I just want the most reliable and consistent router with great range and excellent throughput.

Check out the Router (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/router-charts/) and Wireless (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/component/option,com_chart/Itemid,189/) Charts at SmallNetBuilder.com then read their reviews and compare their features (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/component/option,com_chart/Itemid,189/).

DD-WRT support for the WRT610N is a work-in-progress while it will likely never support the DIR-825.

I would go with the DIR-825

How are the older routers better from that site? I would have hoped that newer equals better range and consistency and throughput.

Newer equals cheaper to manufacture in this case(WRT600N->WRT610N). Read the WRT610N review.

I answered your question in the other thread.

Now if you say price is not object, you can get a heavy duty business type router set up, but many home routers will be more than enough for most peoples needs.

BTW If dual band is important to you why even consider the 825 , I'd think you would be better off with the D-Link 855, as opposed to the Linksys 610. Why even consider the 825 Both are great routers, but in performance tests, the D-Link 855 exceeds the Linksys. Here is a write up on it

Dlink DIR-825 is a dual band (as in simultaneous dual band) router. It is pretty much the same thing as 855 without that fancy screen and one less antenna... at less than half the price.

If dual band is important, and you only own PCs, go with DIR-825 based on price to performance ration with acceptable performance. Each router has its shortfalls, so read reviews and see which suits you best.... I spent the whole morning trying to choose the best router for me and I was having hard time choosing b/w Apple AEBS (I had to buy only from jr.com as I had a gift card, or I would have gone with 500GB Time Capsule from apple), DIR-825 and Linksys and .. finally decided to go with apple... I know it's a little more expensive than 825, but that sure works out for me and there were a lot of ?s for 825.

Basically, I wanted the time machine to work with an external HD connected to the router along with another HD to share b/w PCs and Mac at once and a printer. And I wanted to setup my existing Buffalo with dd-wrt in client bridge mode for my entertainment unit. I know AEBS can handle all that but wasn't sure if 825 could and the Shareport is flaky with macs..

I am not trying to push one particular device here.. but I would say research more on the above 3 (minus apple if you are PC only) and see what fits best for you.

pal :)

EDIT: Btw, if all your devices are wireless N, you might be better off with DIR-655, they go on sale quite often these days. I wouldn't recommend dual band unless you are going to deal with both n and g devices (assuming n devices support 5Ghz).

You should get a DIR-685.

I have an 825, but I would be willing to switch to the 855 or 685.

The 685 seems much sleeker and is very expensive, but there is no duo band.
