1: What's a good sound card for DJ's exactly?
2: I would prefer it if it was a quad core, but a Core 2 Duo is fine.
3. What else do I need to know about a laptop for DJ's?

Any dual core will be fine and XP would be better. Are you going to use serato or ???
I also prefer an external hardrive and 15" screen.
With your budget, you can get 2 of this http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=530509&t=1493133 and use the other one as a backup. Or just get one and spent the rest on your music and external hard drive.

Seeing as you don't need great a great video card or amazing processing power for DJing, I'd recommend getting the first one and spending the remaining $200 or so upgrading the RAM if you want to and buying external storage (external storage is cheaper and more rugged.) If you absolutely need 5.1 sound, a good sound card for you would be something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102020. Good luck!
