I want something like this (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9293445&type=product&id=1218076081107&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=9293445), except it is too big and probably too costly. The maximum width for the entire set, not just the screen, is 31". Maximum height is 30".

I've searched google products as well as slickdeals to no avail, as there is no smaller screen with similar features. If you have to cut corners to make sure it is the right size, then I can skimp on the high resolution, but everything else is very important.

Thanks a bunch.

I would think resolution would be the most important factor besides the dimensions.

Since you have a thread on building a PC I assume its connected to a PC. If thats the case it would be better to just get a monitor and a TV card. Some people though want a standalone TV because of the to me , trivial reason they dont want to turn on the PC too and the monitor.

Theres a DELL 27" thats highly rated. The thing is in the past there were all kinds of deals virtually halving the price. The best one was an ebay MS cashback deal that took 30-35% off of it since there were sellers who were selling DELL through ebay.

I dont know if anything like that is going on at this time and in fact I think the recent back to school BING cashback deal is over now.

Another alternative is to go to a 24" size , theres been a ton of Samsung and other brand sales on decent TN panel monitors for dirt cheap and 23" ones too. Some were under 200 bucks. Check hot deals.

I did notice a recent deal hyped on various deal sites about a DELL deal on a VIore 32" for less than 300 but Im not sure about the physical dimensions. Its about 350 or so now. You dont see too many 1080P small screen HDTVs because they say it doesnt add much when you have a screen that small. The main benefit I guess would be if you want to use it also for a PC monitor then the extra res from a 720P does make a big difference but you can then just get a PC monitor TN panel for a cheap price that has as good or higher res.

I also have to admit my older TN panel 22" wide wasnt nearly as bad as I originally thought
after using a DVI cable instead of VGA and adjusting it through the Nvidia software. Before then it always looked kind of dark and murky even maxing it out with the physical controls. However now , its much brighter. I also tested a newer TN panel 23" wide that was dirt cheap name brand and I have to admit it was even better -- much brighter and sharper looking. If you are doing graphics work etc its probably still good to get a decent IPS/MVA/PVA panel but for most people especially given the price, the TN panels arent nearly as bad as I once thought they were.
