Well usually I go to Sams Club but you need a card obviously. The other places are Wal Mart and Walgreens. With Walgreens it gets a bit more complicated since you have to wait for a 2 for 1 sale which they have almost every other week on certain brands. They also have various coupons you can often use too.
Ive read a site recently that claimed softgels have a far more consistent release into your bloodstream of whatever you are taking so Ive tried to buy anything I could in softgel form. Vitamin E, A, flaxseed , fish oil and some other nutrients you can get anywhere in that form. Other stuff is harder to find. If you look around you can find Vit D in softgel but theres a lot of hard tablets.
Some of the harder to find vitamins in softgel form Ive recently found on Amazon --- Vit C and B complex in softgels or capsules. Its not as cheap buying from Amazon though.
One thing, the conventional wisdom was that the average person doesnt need vitamins, its all a waste of time and money. Additionally it can actually interfere with meds and can have side effects just like any other meds sometimes. Dont gobble vitamins thinking the more you take the healthier you will be.
Perfect example --- VIt E, garlic and aspirin thin your blood. A relative Im helping has to go in for a biopsy and the blood test came back indicating something was wrong with their blood. I told them she was taking the things I listed and they told me not to give them anything before the procedure for 10 days.
Now having said that, theres been lots of hype about fishoil/flaxseed being good for your heart. Theres also been some claims there is proof that C0Q lowers your blood pressure another recently super hyped item at health food stores.
One of the most recently hyped items everywhere is VItamin D as Ive mentioned. Its being linked to all kinds of problems like prostate, breast and colon cancers. The claim is that it was thought people definitely had enough VIt D since you can make it from getting some sun and its in milk. However, articles came out claiming theyve found people are deficient in Vit D.
There seems to be articles coming out weekly linking it to something or other so sure, it might end up being just another overhyped health fad but since there seems to be actual studies claiming there is a problem , until I see articles debunking all the hype Im taking it. Additionally , Ive had a truly dramatic turnaround in some digestive system problems I developed the last 6 years after taking it. One thing about these type of studies since they cant isolate humans for decades and only give them what they want to study them they have to rely on what the people say they were exposed to and ate etc so its really hard finding any clear cause and effect. And when something is hyped there tends to be a bandwagon effect in the media.

If you want to get healthy be sure to change your diet and exercise too, vitamins arent an easy cheap cure-all for an unhealthy lifestyle.

I've used Swanson Vitamins (http://SwansonVitamins.com) for years. They're online/mail only, but way cheaper than any deals you'll find in stores, even with five bucks for shipping.
Some people swear by Puritan's Pride, another online vitamin seller, but their 'deals' are overpriced buy 1 get 2 free. With Swanson if you want one bottle of something for 3 bucks you don't have to spend 10 bucks or more to get 3 bottles of it. And I think Swanson is a higher quality than Puritan's, with a much larger selection.
