Alright so here's our dilema. I've been waiting for our ATT contract to come up in Nov. and bite the bullet on an new phone with WiFi. I don't text, don't surf while out and about, nor do Facebook and all that so the media contracts have never enterered in the equation. (neither does the spouse)
My phones have been used as phones and calendars (sync w/Outlook calendar but I don't do email on the phone) and I've got the PDA on the nightstand for surfing our WiFi at home when I'm wide awake at night and don't want to wake up the spouse. I like the converged device idea as currently toting a phone, a Nano, and a camera around bites. My PDA doesn't hold much of a charge any longer and web surfing is getting harder on it anyways as I can't upgrade the OS any longer. Hence my looking to a few different devices for WiFi surfing, phone, calendar usage. (phonescoop has helped narrow the field down)
While going through Sky/Telescope the other day I saw an app that would be great to have however it's only for the iPhone/iPod touch, so then I began to consider the iPhone.
However in researching the iPhone, I've found out that ATT is requiring all customers who have a 'smart'phone to buy a media package and that is not on my list of things to do. I currently don't subscribe to buying/downloading anything and I'm still not planning on doing it going forward.
And then too, the whole ATT media plan thing just frustrates the heck out of me. I asked a sales rep today and they said that if I buy a device on my own, when I pop my SIM card into the smartphone it'll report it to the ATT network and they'll bump us into a media plan after the 6th even if I never surf on my phone. Errgh.
I'd hate to be buying an iPod touch just for the app, but it's a great one. I guess I'm asking, if you were only in the market for a phone/WiFi/calendar device, what would you get?
Thanks in advance.
