For the SD'ers with Discover Cards...

Do any of you know if when you apply online, and assuming you are approved for the Discover Cash Rewards card, if you get a credit card number at that time so that you could begin making purchases? I ask only because I would like to take advantage of the 5% back from Apple this weekend before the IPod/printer deal are done. Thanks in advance!!

I am a Discover Card holder, and I don't think it works like that. Once you're approved, it takes a little time before they send you your card.

For sure it doesnt work like that. I got a Discover business card last year and I remember I had to wait for the card. I dont think any CC companies do that b/c once you receive a card you have to call and activate it before you can start making purchases.

I had a feeling so but I was just hoping that it might have been different since it was done online. My PenFed cc application is taking over 3 weeks to complete so the Discover card seemed like a last ditch chance. Thanks for your input.

Although, after you've been approved and account created, you *may* be able to log in to Discover's online account enter and create a virtual CC number attached to your account. Call them to see if it's possible to do before receiving your actual card.
