Try www.kayak.com for a search.
I see Virgin Airlines listed Oct 22-Oct 26 JFK-LAX, non-stop, round trip for $239.18, including taxes and fees.
EDIT: Actually, I see that Continental (flying out of EWR) and JetBLue (JFK) have the same $239 RT rate.
