a few months back it seemed common to get 4gb of ddr2 800 ram for $5 to $10 after rebates but now i can't seem to find anything below $40. now i regret returning my 4gb kit of ocz ram since my old motherboard couldn't read 2gb sticks. am i just not looking hard enough? would like to get 4-8gb of ram for dirt cheap. i can get up to 1066 i think on my board but i will settle for 800.

I looked and looked and couldn't find anything decent under $40 either. I finally settled on some G.Skill for $50 I think it was. Decent memory, but certainly not $5 anymore.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122 is the stuff I bought. I think I got it cheaper a few weeks ago though.

I think the serious transition phase to DDR3 has finally begun and the phase out of DDR2. Of course it will be around for a long time but there wont be that super glut as production probably shifts to DDR3.
On the other hand maybe its some weird temporary thing -- deep recession first causing glut and sell off, then cut backs in production which might come back briefly later on until the final phase of shifting to DDR3 occurs? Or maybe as we drift closer to the Xmas season prices are firming up. Ive noticed in the past prices werent that hot leading up to Xmas contrary to what people think. Sure there are a few hot deals here and there but it seems like stores are anticipating greater demand in the holiday season and prices tend to firm up.
I once tracked CPU prices a few years ago and also LCD TV prices and they stunk during Thanksgiving and Xmas season at the very bottom end.

I have now been looking for about 2 months too. I'm trying to only find 2 GB and 533 mhz!
I see some pretty good deals at frys.com but their site blows!

If you're happy with your purchase, would you mind sharing (or PMing) me the ebay deal you got? (I couldn't find it.)
