Q: Will (insert coupon) BEEP?

A: There are two types of e-mailed coupons. Product-specific coupons and $ off coupons. In most cases, product specific coupons will NOT beep at the register, regardless of whether you rec'd them in your email or not. On the other hand, $ off coupons WILL likely beep if you did not get them directly in your email. The cashier's screen will pop up with a message along the lines of "Coupon not valid for card scanned"

Q: Will my cashier push a beeping coupon through?

A: YMMV....that is up to the cashier/manager. Some users have reported that even if they have received a coupon directly from CVS, it still beeps, so CVS will probably push your coupon through as a courtesy to you. There is no official policy to push through beeping coupons, so DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO PUSH THEM THROUGH for you.

Q: What are 12-digit and 13-digit coupons? What's the difference?

A: A coupon barcode that has 13 digits is one-time-use. Once it has been used, it cannot be used again. If you try to use it again, the coupon will beep and the cashier's screen will say "Coupon already redeemed on [date]" 12 digit coupon are multiple-use coupons, and can be used many times.

13-digit CVS q's
-expire promptly on expiration date given; some have reported being able to use it 1 day expired, but no later than that
-SOME 13-digit CVS q's limit all q's/ecbs scanned after it to the amount of that 13-digit q; for example, if your 13-digit $5 q is scanned, and then the cashier tries to scan your $8 ecb, the register will beep and tell the cashier that only a max value of $5 is allowed
-to prevent, use 13-digit q last-to prevent, use all q's/ecbs valued greater than the 13-digit q BEFORE it is scanned-to prevent, only use q's/ecbs valued less than the 13-digit q AFTER it is scanned-to resolve, have cashier rescan your EC Card after the 13-digit q before proceding with other q's/ecbs-one-time use only: once scanned, that particular 13-digit q can never be used again, even if you void the order & start afresh; on the 2nd attempt, register will say already redeemed on mm-dd-yyyy

Before starting a discussion about coupons , PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:

COUPON ACCEPTANCE
As a general rule, stores should accept your coupons because they got you in the door and build sales. The official corporate policy is that CVS will accept one Manufacturer's coupon and one CVS coupon per item. Extra Care Bucks do not count as a coupon for purposes of this rule.

When you get into the fringe scenarios, however, it will vary by district, store, and even by cashier. Some stores have been instructed to "take all the coupons a customer has", some limit you in various ways. Some stores allow multiple "Save $X on $YY purchase" coupons, some don't. Some stores allow the use of coupons past their printed expiration date, some do not. Please note that the newer Save $x on $yy purchase coupons limit you to 1 per transaction.

USAGE OF EXPIRED COUPONS
Historically speaking, CVS coupons do not beep* until 2 weeks after the expiration date printed on the coupon. Some stores take the coupons until they beep, even if it is past the expiration date. Other stores have a policy to NOT take coupons once they have expired.

So, until something changes in their system, a $/$$ coupon that is expired will NOT beep until it is 2 weeks past the expiration date. Given that, please calculate what 2 weeks past the expiration date is and don't ask this question in the thread.

Since some stores have a 'no expired' coupon policy, and we do not want to abuse their kindness in giving us these coupons, please don't be upset if your store won't take the expireds. It happens. Key here is that once a CVS coupon expires, it is even more YMMV than before.

* "beep" : When the CVS register system alerts the cashier that the coupon was not accepted, we refer to this as a coupon that "beeps".

USAGE OF "Save $X on $YY purchase" COUPONS - STACKING AND SUPERSTACKING
The official corporate policy is that you may use as many of these coupons as you like, as long as your total purchased meets the total of the coupons. In other words, if you purchased $30.00, you may use both a "$4 off $20" and a "$2 off $10" in the same transaction. You may not use a "$4 off $20", a "$3 off $15" and a "$2 off $10" together in this scenario because those coupons would require a $45 total purchase. This is good for the coupons that don't specifically say that only one $x/$xx coupon per transaction is allowed.

Many people have discovered that the CVS register system will allow you to go beyond the rule stated above. This is referred to as "stacking". Some folks have successfully used several $/$$ coupons in the same transaction and received $25 or more off of their purchase, and this has become known as "super-stacking". Not every store/cashier allows this. Please read on. This cannot be done with the newer set of $x/$xx coupons as they specifically mention that only one $x/$xx coupon per transaction can be used.

IS IT "WRONG" TO USE COUPONS X,Y,Z IN THIS MANNER?
Some stores will allow you to "stack" coupons beyond the rule stated above. Some stores allow you to use expired coupons. Many posters on this board consider this to be abuse. Many do not. Did CVS intend for these coupons to be used like this? Did CVS really intend for folks to walk out with $100 worth of merch having paid only $0.46 for it? Isn't that just wrong??

Since none of us work for CVS marketing, none of us could ever know CVS's intentions with respect to these coupons. Therefore, we can never know whether we are right or wrong. Whether you choose to do this is up to your store and your conscience.

In any case, please do not discuss the process or the morality of "stacking" or "superstacking", or any other "iffy" couponing scenarios on SlickDeals. Such discussions will generate pages and pages of differing opinion that ultimately goes nowhere. It just gets people upset and no one ever wins the argument.

SlickDeals does not condone fraud, the discussion of fraud, or anything resembling fraud. Any scenario where you try to cheat CVS by inappropriate purchasing & returning, using coupons to buy gift cards, or any other fraudulent usage will be modalerted and removed.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR COUPON BEEPS
Please do not call the CVS customer care line to complain because a store didn't allow you to stack multiple $X off $YY purchase coupons, or because they wouldn't let you use an expired coupon, or because they wouldn't let you use a coupon for a 6.0 oz colgate on the 4.2 oz package (that coincidentally is generating ECB), etc. DO NOT EVER CALL ABOUT STACKING $x/$xx COUPONS!

The following is an example of starting a discussion about stacking $x/$xx coupons and should be avoided, instead one should please read the above about coupon acceptance instead.
Not that it would be wise to attempt it and attract unwanted attention, but as an example to facilitate understanding here : On a $35 purchase transaction of at least 9 items, a register could accept all the following unique coupons ?

$5 off $30 #1, 4-1583, 1-13-08
$5 off $30 #2, 4-1817 , 1-13-08
$4 off $20, 4-1584, 1-13-08
$4 off $20, 4-3037, 1-21
$5 off $15, Times Union 1-13
$3 off $15, 4-1585, 1-13-08
$3 off $15, 4-1587, 1-27
$2 off $10 4-1575, CVS Brand, 1-13-08
$2 off $10, 4-9924, 1/31/08

OFFICIAL POLICY REGARDING THE POSTING OF COUPONS ON SD AND ALSO ANY FUTURE COUPONS THAT HAVE NOT OFFICIALLY RELEASED.

The official policy on coupons as far as SD goes is that we allow all coupons to be posted with the following exceptions:• Altered coupons - warnable offense
• Posting a scanned version of a coupon that was printed out at Coupons.com - warnable offense
(note: providing a link to where to print out the coupon at Coupons.com is OK)
• Scanned manufacturer's coupons - warnable offense
• One-time use coupons (useless anyway)
• Coupons asked to be removed by the source (for example, Lowe's and Target have both asked us to pull coupons off SD

Thank you for taking the time to contact CVS/pharmacy with your inquiry regarding CVS/pharmacy coupon policies and proceedures. I hope that the following information will help to clarify things for your group.

We value our savvy coupon shoppers at CVS/pharmacy. As of June 2007 however, we are no longer accepting expired coupons.

Like many companies, we cheerfully reset expired coupons for many years to accommodate our wonderful customers. The recent change in proceedure can only be attributed to loss prevention.

CVS/pharmacy will accept coupons printed from the Internet.

They must have a legible barcode that scans at the register.

If the coupon does not scan at the register, the cashier should politely inform you that we are unable to accept your coupon. We do not allow manual overrides at the register for coupons printed from the Internet.

Our registers are set to allow 1 CVS coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon per item. However, the staff should be allowing customers to use Extra Bucks in combination with other CVS coupons since these are coupons you have “earned.”

In addition, similarly they should be allowing the use of “offer at the register” coupons which would be an open offer of $3 off of $15 or a certain dollar amount off of a specific item.

Since our registers are programmed to only accept 2 coupons (1 CVS, 1 manufacturer) per item if the number of coupons exceed the items purchased a member of management will need to assist the cashier in processing the coupons.

I just used the $2/2 CRT for nuts yesterday, got two .99 snack packs of cashews, went
through without a beep.
I received that CRT and it beeped for me when I used it. Only other CVS coupon I had was the $4/$20 (exp 4/19) which did not beep. First time I tried using an expired. I was really nervous about getting the third degree for trying to use it but no worries. :D

If I am not wrong most CVS has updated their register & that is why the NUT CRT is beeping when used with any other CVS $off$$. What I have noticed is if you give those $2 NUT before $off$, then it will not beep.

If you give the $2 NUT After $off$$ it will BEEP. This is what I have seen last week, so plan accordingly. They made it difficult for us to lower OOP.

You only need to have them scan it one time (well, one time for each card, if you have more than one card). You don't even have to be buying a Rx on that transaction. Just have them scan it on any transaction and it will be linked to your card, so that you get the "bonus EB's" on all Rx's you purchase using that card.

Have to agree with justjeff. Was your $5/30 pushed through? If so, then it was entered as just a generic $5 CVS coupon and wasn't recognized by the system as a $x/xx. At least that is my theory. Does that make sense?

We have one little CVS near me and there is hardly ever more than 3 cars in the parking lot. When I see the evil cashier is working I go in back to check-out. I always say the cashier's line in front was too long. One day after saying that my husband nudged me in the side.

Based on what are you agreeing with justjeff?I have used the $2 nut crt probably 12-15 times this week and what I have posted is the only thing that explains my experience with these.The clincher that convinced me the crt had been fixed midweek(probably Thursday when I first noticed them scanning)was a transaction with a 5/30crt,2/10CVSbrand crt,and two $2 nut crts(one newer and one older in that order).Nothing beeped until the older nut crt beeped while the newer one scanned through fine just before it.I posted this on early Friday but it seemed to be mostly ignored...

You only need to have them scan it one time (well, one time for each card, if you have more than one card). You don't even have to be buying a Rx on that transaction. Just have them scan it on any transaction and it will be linked to your card, so that you get the "bonus EB's" on all Rx's you purchase using that card.

That's kind of funny because I'm in the reverse situation. We are getting a Walgreens so I've been contemplating trying their rewards program.
Best way to get started is to read the stickies at the top of this forum. There's tons of helpful info that helped me a lot. I also followed the sales threads and read what everyone was posting to catch on to how to make the most of my dollars.
10-100 of an item is probably because those people have more than one card. I won't get into that because that topic has been beaten into the ground.

Well she was on a slow boat to China but now I think she is in the liferaft bailing water as we speak to keep from going under :).Just kidding(but lmao)...By the way,her point was that if my 5off30 had been pushed through it would still have supported your and her position that the $/$$ was causing the nut crt to beep.But, since none of mine were pushed through but yours was this is just further proof the $/$$ has nothing to do with the nut crt beeping because to affect the crts following it the $/$$ would have had to successfully scan first. Perhaps, the nut crt has not been fixed yet in your area as it has been since midweek in others(including mine).That is the only reason I can think of why your nut crt would beep if you just got it Sunday(assuming of course you had at least one item per CVS coupon used and at least $2 balance remaining).HTH

I just used the Save $3 off $15 FSA expenses CRT and it screwed up my order and their cash register. I tried using it yesterday and they couldn't get it to work no matter what they tried even though I was well over the $15 FSA limit, I think it might have conflicted with the $2/10 CVS CRT. Today I gave it to them first. Every coupon after it, rang up item not found and they had to manually enter them and they showed up as FSA coupons. After a while, even that wouldn't work, it think it ran out of FSA purchases to apply it to. We backed out all the items who's coupons wouldn't work. When she tried to do a second order, it wouldn't take any coupons. At that point I left with my first order and went to another CVS, where everything worked fine.

I had the same thing happen to me today w/the Huggies wipes at my fav store.

I had hit the jackpot in the deodorant aisle, with Right Guard and Adidas both ringing up at 75% even though they were still marked at 50%.

So I went to check out the Huggies wipes that had been sitting at 25% for awhile... got the "Item Not Found" message on the price checker. Took it up to the register and the cashiers said the same thing (one even checked it w/the hand-held scanner thingy). They said it wasn't on file in the system anymore and couldn't be sold. :dontknow:

I believe these cashiers, as they know me (and I think even like me :eek:). I told them there were a few more "unsellable" packs left on the shelf. :sadwalk:

OK, based on my transactions tonight and what others have reported my guess is that CVS has now reprogrammed the registers so that if a CVS coupon has to be pushed through($/$$ or other) then subsequent CVS coupons(excluding ecbs )will beep.So far I have heard of this happening with the nut and CVS 2off10 crts following $/$$s that were pushed through.I had an expired $2nut coupon pushed through tonight and then a subsequent unexpired nut crt that should have gone through beeped.This would explain why the nut crt was unexplainably beeping for alot of people after the 4/26 email $/$$'s were pushed through(I haven't used any of those).So may be a good idea to use CVS coupons that will have to be pushed through after other CVS coupons(excluding ecbs).HTH

OK, based on my transactions tonight and what others have reported my guess is that CVS has now reprogrammed the registers so that if a CVS coupon has to be pushed through($/$$ or other) then subsequent CVS coupons(excluding ecbs )will beep.So far I have heard of this happening with the nut and CVS 2off10 crts following $/$$s that were pushed through.I had an expired $2nut coupon pushed through tonight and then a subsequent unexpired nut crt that should have gone through beeped.This would explain why the nut crt was unexplainably beeping for alot of people after the 4/26 email $/$$'s were pushed through(I haven't used any of those).So may be a good idea to use CVS coupons that will have to be pushed through after other CVS coupons(excluding ecbs).HTH

I have a feeling it might be another problem going on and it might be their computer system. The reason I say this is because for the last 2 weeks every order I tried to purchase at CVS....the CRTs beeped and they were not expired and all of them were connected to my card. Each time the cashier asked me if they belonged to another card and I told them no and that my name was on them. I only have one card and I don't use those cvs coupons that are posted on this site. I had 2 orders for a little over $25 and both times the $5/$25 beeped and the other ones such as the nuts, and others I can't think of right now. It was so bad one time that they shut down the line I was in because the cash register locked up as the cashier was trying to over-ride them. I'll be going again on Friday so I'll see what happens then.

Some evidence to support this theory. Furthermore, it seems that it does not matter whether the beeping coupon is pushed through or not - what matters is just that it beeps.

On Sunday 5 off 30 coupon pushed through, after that 4 off 20 beauty scanned just fine - I had $50 order. Yesterday, again on a $50 order, 5 off 30 beeped and NOT pushed through, after that 4 off 20 beauty beeped too. Had them void the transaction and start over - now gave 4 off 20 first and it went through fine.

Thanks and repped for confirming what I have been trying to tell people since Thursday the first day I got a $2 nut crt that scanned through fine...

Based on what are you agreeing with justjeff?I have used the $2 nut crt probably 12-15 times this week and what I have posted is the only thing that explains my experience with these.The clincher that convinced me the crt had been fixed midweek(probably Thursday when I first noticed them scanning)was a transaction with a 5/30crt,2/10CVSbrand crt,and two $2 nut crts(one newer and one older in that order).Nothing beeped until the older nut crt beeped while the newer one scanned through fine just before it.I posted this on early Friday but it seemed to be mostly ignored...

In my experience ,as mentioned above and previous posts on this(the first one on early Friday based on my Thursday experiences) the $/$$ coupons have nothing to do with this...(we were posting at about the same time so I will just answer you here as part of this post)

They are beeping because they are coded as a '$/$$' coupon. For some reason they are coded $2 off $10. So when you use a $4 off $20 or other $/$$ CRT, they beep.

I bought 3 SB shower refills on each of my two cards. The first transaction I gave the $2 off 2 coupon first and then The BOGO, thinking the $2 would come off of two and then BOGO would make one free. Well it beeped and the manager pushed through the BOGO coupon without reading the fine print.

The next store, I bought the 3 again, but gave the BOGO first and then the $2 off 2 coupon. Well it beeped again, but the cashier would not push through the $2 off coupon. So it beeps both ways and I believe you have to buy four to not beep.

i dont know about beeping but i think it would work fine. visine is an fsa eligible product. plus i dont know about these CRTS, i actually accidentally gave the cashier a 3 off benefiber instead of a 3 off lumene and it went through. i dont know whether its with all of these CRTs or just that particular one. didnt have any benefiber in my order and i actually realized it right away and gave her the right CRT but she was like it worked so its fine. i'm in no way encouraging ppl to use wrong CRTs but i think cvs and even manufacturer qs should be coded well. in the beginning i didnt know about the security code of IPs and photocopied them a couple of times and used them. i was horrified to learn that the manufacturer doesnt reimburse the store if the security code is same. its my mistake/lack of proper info, why would they punish the store?? they should make it so that they shouldnt scan more than once.u dont expect the cashiers to be matching codes if they r scanning fine.

Second of all, I have seen the tearing off the small part of the receipt also.Why not just ask: Oh what was that? Is that for me? Can I see that? When it happened to me a few times this week, it was a small coupon that was the old sign up your email address and get a 4/20 within 3 weeks. Sometimes they threw it out, sometimes they gave it to me.

There are no current unexpired printable $/$$'s. I guess there's a $4/$20 for beauty purchases that expired 4/19, which some people are still using, so if you see chatter about that, that's what that one is.

Generally CVS sends out $/$$'s every 2 weeks, not weekly. We're on an off week right now, but hopefully there'll be emailed Qs next Thursday. :)

If it's 13 digit any card can use it, however, it's one time use. Once you use that 13 digit coupon and if you try to use it again, it will beep that it was already used.

All the CRTs came from the scanner. I had to scan my card 4-5 times for all of them to print so don't forget to scan your card again and again! Sundays and Mondays seem to be the best days to get CRTs.

Now the # of CRTs you get and what they are for depends on some things like:

- How long you've had the card.
- How often you use the card.
- What you buy on the card.

While some CRTs are given to every card, others are given to cards that may have purchased a lot of that item or an item like it.

Newer cards and cards that seldom get used (like my fiance's :( ) may get less CRTs, but this is all up to CVS....:lol: Just keep shopping and couponing and your card will build up a "history" with CVS and the coupons will come. :) HTH!

It'll get much easier with each transaction you do. Make sure to be friendly to the cashiers.
You are doing nothing wrong, so don't give the impression you are by hurrying. Take your time if you need to and look around. If they ask if you need help, just tell them you are trying to make sure you are getting the correct product for the deal.

The online is always a bit off, as I believe it takes 48-72 hours to update. In terms of getting them reprinted the chances are slim, I believe that a few posters stated that they were lucky, but in my experience once lost you are outta luck.

I just wanted to say you aren't alone. I still feel that way sometimes if I'm in a new store. However, I love my regular store. They know us by name. (I know we should probably fly under the radar, but I guess I've never been able to do that) One of our fave's just commented on my DD's new haircut. I bring them Q's, brought them Easter candy, give em stuff I know they might need if I have an abundance, etc. I kinda feel their part of my extended family, but better b/c they never borrow money.:lol:

I can still after a few years of CVSing and couponing say that at times i get a little funny feeling entering a store knowing im about to get a great deal due to my coupons. Some stores radiate this feeling due to past experiences with coupon scrutinizing store employees and just plain out right mean, abusive and confrontational store employees. My motto is kill them with kindness. If i go into a store i have had a bad experience in the past at i go above and beyond being super nice. Some stores you get the feeling employees watch you like you sre stealing or something( i carry my binder into every store i go) i always find a place out of the way and in plain site of employees to sort through my binder if i need to pull out extra coupons i was not expecting to be able to use. This way they see that i am going out of my way for them to see what i am doing. Even my most dreadful CVS store with the most coupon arguments is fast becoming one of my favorites again. In a weeks time i sometimes goto as many as 20 different CVS's and have clerks that actually call me about clearances and stuff. Its easy to argue coupon use but to maintain better service and LESS coupon criticing, kill them with niceness and they remember that.

My experience with the online total is that new ECBs you've earned are pretty much immediately reflected, but old ECBs that you've used need a couple days to update (as squidgy noted).

So let's say I have $20 total in ECBs, and I use $5 today and get $3 back - assuming I make no more transactions for a few days, the next couple days my online account will say I have $23 instead of the true value of $18. Since most of us use ECBs on a pretty frequent basis though, I think it's tough to get an accurate total from the online account (since you'd need to not have any ECB activity at all for a few days). :lol:

Another thing is that manually printed ECBs won't make it into the online account.

So unless you have a lot of manually printed ECBs, the online account total will usually be higher than how many ECBs you actually have.

Okay.... reason I sought clarification is I did you realize any of the positively ageless products were that cheap. Seems like they were more like 15.99 and higher... must be wrong. That being said, the 10Q only makes a small dent... (not to complain though) just not sure it would be worth it ....

After looking at my PA products I bought last week, I bought the PA Firming Body Lotion, it is only 8oz. Even though it is a rather large tube, I guess I miscalculated the size in my head. My deal above will not work since it's an 8oz tube, and the new $2 CVS coupon says 12-18oz. Oh well.

Yesterday I couldn't find my card so I got a new card, and lucky me,this card has been used for some customers who don't have CVS card,cashier used this card to scan so the customer can get discount price.I bought the energy shot and on receipt show me spring spending is $101.xx and I also get $3 off 15:heart:
I want to use the new card but I don't have much extra buck.And I have question about buying CVS gift card with the old extra buck.The registers don't let us or the cashiers don't let us use extra buck to buy cvs gift card?TIA.

I know Extra buck at CVS and RR at Walgreen all said can't buy GC but me and others sometimes can buy GC with RR at Walgreen if we have nice cashiers but I never try buying GC at CVS with extra buck because I don't see anybody talking about that.Because the register won't allow or the cashier won't allow it?thanks again

when to scan my card tonight and got:

Can not process...see sales associate.

Mgr code: 0014

Happened on both scanners at 2 different stores. When I went to buy something got coupons w/ reciept and asked SA why my card would not scan and what was code 0014.

She just kind of looked at me and said the machine acts up sometimes.

Anyone have any clue or who do I need speak w/ to handle it?

There is a thread about a code 16 yesterday. Maybe their entire system was out of wack yesterday?

Generic, meaning they have no name written on it. Probably will still beep. It usually takes a couple of days for CVS to complete the emails. Some coupons have been sent to me a day after others have gotten theirs. hth
