View Full Version : Should we maybe have a master Paper craft/printables/worksheets thread in Freebies?

There has been a recent blizzard of threads in the freebies section all offering links to pages that have printable paper crafts for cars, buses, airplanes and whatnot. It's getting kinda silly.

Now, I like these things myself but not 20 or 30 such threads in a short period of time. I can imagine people who don't consider a link a to a printable paper airplane a freebie are considerably more agiated than I about this trend. Most freebie sites consider such postings 'junk'. I am posting this thread here to try and head off any unpleasant confrontations such as the last time 'junk' was an issue in Freebies.

I have a useful suggestion:

Could we maybe have a Master "papercraft printables" thread where we can stow all these links and offers? Not a sticky mind you, just ONE thread where all such offers go. You could call it:

The Official Papercraft & Printables Thread

Then, if somebody insists on starting a new thread for a paper ariplane or paper car, it would be up to us Users to Mod Alert it with the link to the Matser Papercraft Printable thread for a Moderator to move it. If nobody is bothered by new threads for a link to a paper airplane, then nobody will Mod Alert it. If somebody is annoyed, they can direct the thread to be merged to the Master thread. Everybody wins!

Discuss amongst yourselves:

Great idea! I'm always disappointed when I read through the freebie, go the site and then it's print out.

it's happening again. We have a busy bee in freebies blanketing the forum with individual threads for printables. At the rate she's going, every coloring page and every homeschool worksheet is gonna have it's own thread by sundown.

I don't see what that is a problem. No one else is complaining.

once in a while we get the over-ambitious noob posting which is alright. some deals are good, some aren't. if we don't like 'em just don't post in them and eventually it'll be in page two. no biggie.

Well... c'mon. We have a ton of really innapropriate merging of freebie threads for different products with different links where just because it's the same parent company, a new offer from this year gets merged with a 2 year old thread for a different product but we need 30 new threads a day for printables? Doesn't make sense.

Selma has gone to a great deal of trouble to create unified threads for Focus groups, another for surveys that only give points or drawings etc etc and yet we still feel the need to have hundreds of individual threads for every paper airplaine, every math worksheet and printable calendar?

it's inconsistant and confusing.

I believe a Printables/Papercraft thread would be useful and give us all a place to list those things without cluttering up the freebies forum with junk postings. I believe it would be a popular thread just like Selma's Focus group thread.

While I'm at it, how about a Master download thread? No.. sorry. Nevermind, don't want to push my luck!

I like the idea myself. We could have free product category and a subsection for free kids stuff - like pictures, homeschool, etc. Then you don't have to slug through everything to find what you want.

I would love a subsection in Freebies for Kids stuff. Put all the downloadable sites and goodies for little guys there. Then folks without kids don't have to go through it. And the people (like me) who do want kiddie stuff can find it easier.

I'm against sub-sections. It reminds me of a freebie site that was all divided & sub sections all over the place. I greatly disliked it. It was disorganized, and just cluttered with re posts of the same offer in different sections. I posted a few times, then ran away after it was divided up.

In all honesty, I didn't see lots & lots of print out freebies in there. Even the day this thread was made, there weren't that many. If you are after a sub-section, then you need to speak with Mr. SlickDeal.

But if you want a Master thread, then make one. Just remember, just because there is one there, doesn't mean that people have to post in it. And I do think that it will become very cluttered very quickly with long lasting offers, quickly gone offers, dead links, etc. Hence why I haven't made one. I think individual posts are fine.

:iagree: with Nuala'sMom. I'd like an official thread for Papercrafts/Printables thread. Also an official thread for Downloads (just free downloads with nothing attached to them, free t-shirts w/ download would have its each individual thread).

I like all the freebies to be in one thread. Even if I am not looking for a printable at the time I might run across one that is posted that sparks my interest. I agree with kel-be about not splitting up the freebie thread with many sub categories. It just makes things more complicated. I have been to other freebie threads on the internet and the reason I joined this one was because it seemed to have everything in one place. Just putting my 2 cents in on the thread. Noone will probably listen to me cause im a newbie on slickdeals but that doesnt mean I am a newbie from finding freebies and other threads. I hope you take my advice and leave it the way it is. Thank you.

I never asked for subsections and I wouldn't since past discussions have made it clear subforums and subsections ain't a gonna happen. I agree with kel be that they are confusing. When Yes-It'sFree.com existed, it was truly maddening to try and figure out which subforum a given offer fell into.

Also, a separate thread for kids freebies isn't what I was suggesting either. All I was saying is that the dozen or so printable things that get posted as individual threads each day might be better served if placed in one master thread where folks who like that stuff can see it all. Sure, links go dead and offers expire but that's no less true for the focus group offers in the master focus group thread.

Since Kel be runs Freebies and she prefers a single thread for every paper airplane, single printable math worksheet etc. etc - It's her decision not mine. Single threads it will be.

I don't presume to make 'official" threads or "Master" threads because I'm not a moderator and don't want to be mistaken for one. I already get too many PMs from people asking me why their posts disappeared, or upset that an offer they posted got merged with a different offer and so on. If Kel be decides one day that this idea is a good one and wants to make such an official thread, I'll post to it.

I'm done with this issue - if anyone else wants to make the case for this or wants to create the thread thesmelves - more power to them.
