Moving Boxes

I will be moving in a couple of weeks. I need to buy moving boxes. Would anyone know of a good place to buy (or get) from? I would probably need about 50 large boxes.

I don't know of a good place to buy boxes from, but I know where you can get free boxes.

Check out any universities that you have near you. If there is a lot of scientific research, there will be a ridiculously large number of boxes because of the volume of disposables that are used.

Another good place to look for boxes is at liquor stores. There always have boxes that are amazingly sturdy.

Also check out craigslist and freecycle--people are always getting rid of moving boxes. If you really need fresh moving boxes, check with local moving companies--if you use their services, you might get a break on the cost of the boxes.

Are you downsizing? I purchased a bunch of plastic totes from Costco, use them as my storage in the spare room. Costco (seems to only be the B&M locatons and they do not always have them available) also has a moving box kit from Scotch for $50, best deal I found- it contains:

5 Large boxes, 23x23x16 inches
8 Medium boxes 20x20x14 inches
12 Small boxes 18x12x12 inches
5 rolls of bubble wrap, each 12 inches by 10 feet
3 rolls of packing tape
3 tape dispensers
24 bubble pouches
1 marker for labeling your boxes

You can get free boxes from Walmart. My mother has been doing this for 20 years. Just ask a associate near the stockroom entrance.

i've done alot of moving and your best bet is to go to a 24hr walmart or meijer at four in the morning when they're stocking the shelves. they'll have carts full of boxes, you can just push them out to your car, you'll have different sizes for everything you need packed.

stay away from grocery stores, their boxes smell.

or you can drive around the back of strip malls and look through the garbage cans, walmarts, kmarts, walgreens will all use a compactor so you'll have to find a party city or something along those lines.

our local wholesale club also gives free boxes...

if ur buying boxes from home depot or lowes, dont forget to ur moving kit (its free) from the post office which may have some discount coupons for home depot or lowes...

most post offices do NOT offer the coupons in the moving pack any longer FYI

then it might be useful to do the address transfer online on usps.com where in the end there is an option to get coupons from lowes or home depot...it takes a while since it comes by snail mail....

I work for a box company. Check out U-line. They're online and probably would deliver to you. They're pretty much the cheapest out there. You could also contact a local manufacturer and see if they have any overruns or misprinted boxes. Happens all the time. Companies go out of business and stick companies with inventory as well.
